Elizabeth town is full of ideas. It's too bad they couldn't have been strung together to form one cohesive story. Which is kind of what you want to do in the movie. Is it the story of a shoe designers catastrophic failure that almost bankrupts Nike. (The shoe was named the Spasmotic. No reason was ever given about why the show was recalled to the tune of a a billion dollars. Why would you need to recall a shoe unless maybe it was making people's feet dissolver. The unanswered shoe question hung there at the back of mind for the entire movie) Is it the story of a son who goes back to meet his father's family after his father's death and it's complications? Is it a boy meet girl story about two people who are the subsititute people in their friends lives? I guess, don't know.
So many threads, so little weaving. I don't know why I keep trying with Cameron Crowe. I want his movies to be better than they are. Jerry Maguire? Feh. Did anyone enjoy Almost Famous? Singles? Say Anything? They make me laugh but they are all bit maudlin and needy.
Okay, Fast Times at Ridgemont High was hilarious. What has he done for me lately?
