This is Michelle Yeoh's return to the wuxia drama. It's produced by John Woo, so there's been a ton of buzz on it. DON'T READ THE REVIEWS! The English reviews I've read totally spoil it when they draw comparisons to other films. It's not a great martial arts film. It's a lot of flying swordplay ala CTHD. It's not the next CTHD either. Michelle is totally on point with it, but it lacks Chow and Z to balance her performance. It's a good film, but not an over-the-top great film, nor is it an outstanding example of what Chollywood is putting out now. But I was thoroughly entertained by it as I love the old wuxia dramas. It reminded me of the pre-Shaw Brothers, pre-Bruce Lee kung fu flicks, with an up-to-date cinematic style. Not a DOOM film, but a decent film. It made me want to start practicing my jian again.

If Michelle swinging swards doesn't get PPFY all hot and bothered, then Millbrae has truly been the death of him. Granted, she's swinging her sward while suspended from wires, but who's quibbling that? She's pushing 50. She can use all the wires she wants now.
