I saw the trailer in Apple's movie previews. It looked interesting. It opened last week in NY and LA. This week in broader distribution. I looked it up and in the south bay, that meant one theater in Palo Alto. I had come over the hill to spend some time with my dad (got to drive the Model A for a bit...), then I went to IKEA and decided I'd go see the movie.
I was worried that the trailer gave too much away. I'd recommend seeing the movie cold so you don't have any preconceptions. That said, it had an interesting story and took it further than I expected.
Sam Rockwell plays with himself...he's a moon farmer taking care of the moon combines that harvest moon dust. Kevin Spacey is the voice of Gertie, the robot assistant. That's about it for main cast. It's kinda like Tom Hanks and Wilson if Wilson had Kevin Spacey's voice.
It's a slow paced movie. Not an action movie. Not a comedy. Not a space horror movie. It really just sticks to the sci-fi genre and feels like a novelette brought to the screen. I used to listen to the old "X minus One" radio show. This feels like one of those stories.
I'd say more, but I don't want to give any spoilers.
