It was good to see the Eagle Rock Power station being used for the San Quentin Execution chamber. That's my third visit there (Fourth?) We did Ghosts of Mars, Longest Yard and one other. It was also used as the Prison for the Nicholas Cage/John Travolta "Face Off" I didn't work on that John Woo film. but it was so bad they could have put my name on it anyway.
"The Changeling" is mostly about what a shit hole Los Angeles was in the Thirties, especially if you went to the Police for help. Angelina Jolie in white face and red lips goes to the Police to get help finding her missing son. They return another boy to her that's not quite her son. She gets throw into the nut hatch when she complains. For those keeping score at home, I helped build the Nut hatch. My biggest contribution was cutting in the steel panels on the doors and making the bars. There were a lot of shots through those bars and closing the little panels. I also helped build the scaffold for the hanging scene. This will be my second scaffold.
It's a well done film. It's bizarre how badly Angelina was treated by the cops and the fraud they were perpetrating. The most revealing story was the twenty murders done in Wineville now Mira Loma. They changed the name of the town after some adverse publicity resulting from the trial. I guess townfolk don't like it when twenty murders are committed in the town.
I also had to see the film because Angelina Jolie's ( she gave me a swiss army knife with her name on it on another film) character lived in my neighborhood. There are many references to the Lincoln Heights police station. The only problem is I think her house was in the way of the 5 freeway and it no longer exists. Or it's under the Home Depot.
