Soul Coughing @ The Filmore 9/15/24
#1
i never saw Soul Coughing live, but I really like this set up on the Internet Archive: https://archive.org/details/sc1998-10-25.shnf

My understanding is that when they split in 2000, there was some bad blood between the members. Lots of drug use and Doughty left to get away from that. Per wikipedia:

Quote:In 2012, Doughty published a memoir called The Book of Drugs, covering his formative years as a musician, what he called the "dark, abusive marriage" that was Soul Coughing, and his experiences with addiction and recovery.

I heard he became a born again christian and swore off ever playing with "those guys" again. I've seen him solo several times and he's sharp and funny and writes great songs and has a decent solo career, so I was surprise when in June, Mike Doughty posted on Facebook a photo of a bill board with the El Oso album art and the words "We said it would never happen"

They announced the tour in late june with all original members. I got 2 tix for the 2nd Filmore show as soon as the went on sale. Whatever allowed them to perform together - money, age, true friendship, blackmail...I'm all for it. They did a teaser appearance on Jimmy Kimmel last wednesday

The drummer is great, but bass player Sebastian Steinberg was the best. So animated. Note: Sebastian Steinberg and Leland Sklar are different people. Maybe this is what happens when you battle the balrog in mordor...

It was a great show. I took my son and we had a great time. They played so many great songs and were super tight. Really glad to have gotten to see them live.

PS: Also, no band members punched each other!

Band members not punching each other seems to be a pretty low bar.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm

He looks slightly Yeti-ish. Yeti-lite maybe.

Is it a bass player thing? Are you going to grow a beard?

Here's Leland Sklar

I meant the singer.

And I already have a beard. I don't need a big showy beard.
