For "standing on the shoulders of giants" then I need to mention R.E.M - "Standing on the shoulders of giants leaves me cold." (from King of Birds)

Right.
Today is a chill day. My chest is a bit clearer. I’m just going to do laundry (struggle with our broken washer) and walk the dog. Skipping yoga again to heal. My coughing fits won’t do for shivasana, or any public outing for that matter. The iaido & kyudo classes were forgiving because the head sensei is in town for the week. I need to get healthy for Thursday.

Round three of teeth scraping.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm

Yowch! How many of these must you do?
I got 2 telemeets, then over to visit my mom who I haven’t seen in 3 weeks with Mexico and being sick. Gotta go tonight because there’s the last special session of iaido tomorrow.

The one today and then one more. They break the mouth into four quadrants. I could go four times or two times. At one point, I thought I could do it in two but after doing just a quarter, I knew I could only do it one quadrant at a time.

I'm working but apparently the faculty will be on strike when classes start tomorrow. We'll see if any of them show up anyway. It's supposed to be a five day strike.
Going to Costco after work. I always enjoy a trip to Costco.

Are you in the union, KB?

I'm in the CSUEU (California State Employees Union), and we negotiated a new contract last year. Some of the facilities people are Teamsters. Faculty have their own union.

Lotta poor man gotta walk the line just to pay his union dues...
I was only in a union once, for graduate students at UCSC. My apartment-mate was shop steward. We almost went on strike. I think we were connected to the Teamsters too.

Heading home in a minute after taking out the garbage. Then work. Then a special iaido session, last one whilst the head sensei is in town. Saturday's kyudo session was cool. I learned a lot (mostly that I'm a terrible archer, and even worse when there's all these japanese zen rituals around it).
Being in svale a day early messes with my head. I was waiting for my reggae radio show last night...

Last day before classes start - strike averted - so I'm taking it easy while I can.
Got a James Brown CD from the library and there was a skip right in the song I wanted to hear. Grr. But I discovered there's a way better compilation, so I'll watch for that at Rasputin. Now it's time for some tea.

What was the song?
It’s a wet Wednesday and I just got handed a screener (I think - must double check that it came through) which I’ll have to bang out tonight because I have the Lou Reed thing tomorrow (and I should find out my ‘lesson’ to see if it’s in the 15 mins). Good thing I’m ahead on my regular work right now. Today was targeted as a writing day, a wet writing Wednesday…

The song was Mother Popcorn - like a lot of his songs from the 60s on, it's just a great jam with him coming in every once in a while.
First day of classes, and not many people in the building. I guess the instructors who cancelled classes for the strike didn't bother to un-cancel. And so much rain when I was going to work.

That song is bangin!
Today I have two telemeets, then up to SF for the Lou Reed event, then dinner with my cub. Looking forward to SF, as always.

Still wired from Thursday evening. Too much qi. Actually too much admiration from Laurie, the Mitchen Sisters, the KALW crew, and the audience.
At least I can sleep in this morning. Then some writing and follow up on miscellaneous work tasks and errands. Happy Friyay!
