Those are the best.

It’s sprinkling here. Overcast. Feels muggy, almost tropical. I’m doubtful that I’ll be able to do any moon gazing because today is Moon Festival.

Sprinkles here at the Lair. Big lightning strikes to our east in Oakhurst.

895: my stenosis count is off. Comes from posting after midnight when my eyes aren’t focusing well. I’ll fix that later. It’s really only for my benefit, but so are many of my posts.

Did NOT sleep well last night. Yuki was barking at things he saw under the bright full moon a lot

Today is a typical Sunday - work a bit, write a bit, do laundry.

884.75: Today started with AAA.

My mistake is above. Should be 884.77, not 75. I blame my lack of nortrip,...and Sony...Sony is to blame

Today should be 895.88

And I forgot to mention that Sundays are now yoga days. That means Mondays are now 'sore in places I didn't know had nerves' days.

896.78 - I thought there might be an 8am telemeter today because we skipped last week, but I'm in our Gotomeeting room all alone so I'll hang out here for a bit longer then move on. There is a telemeet later at 10L30 because that one is weekly. then I have a googmeet with Fireside Project, a new psychedelic assistance program https://firesideproject.org. These have been popping up more and more, especially now since SF just decriminalized plant-based psychedelics (following Oaksterdam). Not quite sure what we'll talk about but we'll just see where it goes. Kinda looking forward to that, but annoyed with RM for booting me off the LiB list.

Alright, I'm bailing on this meeting.

897.79 Today starts with our monthly review telemeet where once again I fell short of goal. Summer was rough on sales. Then work, then over to scale for mom stuff, hopefully unloading her car on a family friend...

I knew that about Oakland but didn't know about SF. Pretty soon we'll all be able to microdose I guess.

Crazy, right?

I had a pleasant chat with Fireside. We are looking towards having another meeting with all the supervisors, about a half dozen people. It's a trippy project. They have a 'talk down' app, although most of my patients are in such a state that they cannot use their phones. They also have govt funding.

Plus I have a CHSA telemeet, which I'll probably take from the dog park. Multitaskin, man...

So...yesterday, around 4:30p I get a call at the office from my mom. I find an empty meeting room and answer it, except it's not my mom, it's someone from the fire department saying my mom has fallen in the pet food store parking lot and can I pick her up and take her to Kaiser. I'm 7 min away and pack up and head over and I get a call from my mom (for real this time) saying that she's fine, but just can't put weight on her leg and is going to ride the ambulance over and I should just meet here there. Cut to Kaiser Emergency. With COVID protocols, you have to run several security gauntlets before you can get in the building and since my mom just arrived, she hasn't been assigned a room, so they won't let me in. They tell me to wait 10 min. I try again and am led to her room in the green section of the ER. It's after 5pm. Eventually, someone does an intake and collects her copay. An attendant gets her vitals. I tell him to make sure they don't cut off the wrong leg. We all laugh...

Then much later, we talk to a doctor who gets her history and says we'll need to look at the xrays. We don't know at this point how long she'll be there.

We wait until ~7p, I step out and go to the Apple Park cafe where I can grab a free meal. I still have to figure out how to get her car back to her house and feed her dogs. I remember DM sometimes is over in Sunnyvale in the beginning of the week, so I check the forum. He's here, so I use my "phone a doom brother" - he's willing and able...Thanks DM!

I go back to the ER for an update...still no Xrays, no doctor update...no update of any kind. We sit and sit...time passes. This is the very boring part of the moving that needs judicious cut scenes. Finally, around 8p, I decide to go to the nurses desk to ask for an update and get scolded to wait back in the room. No update. We're in the room talking about how we don't know what's going on, or how long they'll keep her, and what to do about the dogs and the car. Generally frustrated and the scolding nurse comes back in with a male nurse and scolds us some more. Essentially saying You're not dying...we'll get to you when we get to you.

Finally, the male nurse comes back in about 20 min later to take my mom to xray. I head over to get DM and do some car shuffling.

We get to my mom's, I feed the dogs and then drop DM back off.

Back to the ER for an update. No results yet...more waiting. Around 9:30p, the doctor makes a second appearance. She says sorry that took so long. It appears my mom has fractured her pelvis and they need to consult the orthopedic. Not for surgery, but to figure out the recovery. She's going to have to stay overnight, but since the Kaiser hotel os overbooked, she gets to stay in her current ER suite.

I make another trip back to her house to get some basics (meds, toothbrush, hairbrush) so she can do the overnight. We'll get news about the recovery plan sometime this morning. So I go back to her house and crash.

Thanks again DM, I really appreciate it!

This morning, I'm heading back to get the latest news.

My mom complains often that she is shrinking. I said you'd think that being closer to the ground, falling wouldn't hurt as much...

Happy to help. Hope your mom heals strong and fast.

It was trippy to see your childhood home again. The more I think about it, the more I think the last time was when I was in Grad school at UCSC and you did that photo shoot for my first year experiment. That would've been '86-87. I was fascinated by the dogs and the boats.

If she has to go to a rehab facility, avoid Manor Care (just off Remington, you can see it from Saratoga-Sunnyvale). My mom got terrible care there.

If you need a hand, and DM isn't around, feel free to reach out to me.

The list of suggested/covered facilities in the area were limited. I madly checked my phone for reviews and most were poor. The Nurse Coordinator said the choice was also gated by which ones had available beds...

While I was looking, she went away to make calls. She mentioned one on Bernardo. One yelp review said he gave it one star because 0 wasn't an option. Of all on the list she gave me, only 2 had 3 stars one of which was White Blossom Care Center in Saratoga, across from West valley College. and luckily, when she called back she said they had a bed, so that's where she's going. For how long is still uncertain...

I have to figure out what to do about her dogs.
