Sheltering in Place
835: Got a decent night’s sleep possibly thanks to a lidocaine patch on my shoulder. I feel a tad better so far today and the meds have yet to kick in. Yesterday was the worst so far.

I have two telemeets today which I’ll do from bed on my laptop. I need to prep a report today for tomorrow’s meeting, sort my Kaiser stuff and pick up some prescriptions too.

And heal. Gotta heal…

I did e-stim acupuncture back in the 90’s when a compressed disc in my back partially paralyzed my left leg (couldn’t lift the toe “foot-drop”) had to shuffle-walk for a couple months). Did nothing, but Dr. Rob the Fencing Master was treating me for free and he through that in.

The stretches he gave me though, they worked. I’ll be interested in what your old Chiro in Palo Alto comes up with for you.
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

836: Didn't mean to stay up past midnite because I have a meeting first thing in the morning. Then I have another meeting for CHSA. Then over to visit mom and my long time chiro doc who I haven't seen since the pandemic. Kind of a big day. I should sleep now...

837: Tonight I kinda did mean to stay up past midnight. I can sleep in tomorrow. I just need to pick up my mom’s mail and head home, and put in a day’s work.

&38: Waiting for the box (our local organic food delivery). Yuki will bark and wake me if it doesn’t come soon.

Stacy is in SF with Tara. It’s just me and Yuki here at the bungalow. That’s rare and Yuki seems a tad confused. Good prep for the backpacking trip that I won’t be going on.

In the morning, two telemeets, work, then KF. Sorting my new physical boundaries. Might attempt tiger hooks - my only double weapon now - to see how my left arm is. It feels pretty weak.

839: Had a vid appt with my new spine doc. It went as expected. He's putting me on a new neural med - we'll see how that goes - and says the next step might be an epidural but fuck that. Mostly, it's masking pain until my body heals itself. Or if it goes the other way, surgery is the only other alternative. Given my diabetes, that's more risky. Diabetes also rules out steroid shots. Fuckin diabetes. But steroids would just be another mask.

Did an vid interview for YMAA. That went well.

An old friend is passing through the Cruz. We're getting together for dinner tonight. Turns out she's staying in C-brite, like two blocks from our bungalow.

Damn my arm hurts right now - a deep dull nerve pain in my armpit. Been doing that twisting for comfort quest for over an hour now…

840: Kung Fu, maybe work a bit (my endurance at my workstation is so low that I must hit it a lot in short bursts to meet deadlines), mostly rest and prep for next weekend.

841: Anither work day - an official swap for Friday because I’ll be at SDCC (although I typically work a bit on Sunday to catch up on the time I lose each week for my mom).

Back at work after a quick trip to San Diego for my brother-in-law's funeral. (Two drives there in less than three weeks.) Gotta catch up on some stuff.

Found a young possum in the bottom of our cleanup bucket (we use it for leaves, clippings, and sweepings) in the yard this morning. It was curled up with the plant matter. I guess it got in and couldn't get out. Why? Maybe hiding from a predator? I dumped it out, and it ran into the bushes by the fence.

&43 (26) - the parenthetical number is my days in chronic pain. Work, grapple with Kaiser about some stuff, then over the bill to visit mom and my chiropractor, then spend the night at svale.

Ate

I should get out of bed, eat my meds and breakfast. It’s just that I’m relatively pain free lying down right now and when I get up, the pain will begin again…
