BTW,
S2E7 "Life Hutch" (the space combat tale) is based on a Harlan Ellison story.
S2E8 "The Drowned Giant" gives credit to J. G. Ballard's story of the same name. But it reminds me of the novel Towing Jehovah by James Morrow, which I've never read, but should.
Wikipedia's synopsis of Towing Jehovah:
God is dead, and now God's two-mile-long cadaver is floating in the Atlantic Ocean, just off the coast of Africa. As a result, the archangel Raphael hires supertanker captain Anthony Van Horne to tow the cadaver into the Arctic, with the intention of having it be preserved by the cold.

Agreed!
I thought the Drowned Giant captured the Ballard story really well.
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

It might have worked for me as a prelude to Nightmare Before Xmas in December but I just can't hang with out of season Xmas stuff.

S2E7 Life Hutch was just the darker version of the very first episode. Robots gone wrong.
S2E8 "The Drowned Giant" I don't know. I thought it was daring that it didn't really have a plot or a story. It was just a tone poem, sort of. But the kind of thing that stays with you.

We saw the first four episodes. Ep01 revisits the three robots visiting a post-man earth. It's written by John Scalzi and comes off a little preachy. But some good snark. Ep02 is a nice horror story set aboard a doomed sailing ship beset by a horrible monster. Ep03 is set on the moon of Jupiter, Io. It's kind of trippy but my least favorite of the four we saw. Ep04 is titled Night of the Living Mini-Dead. It was the best. It was the zombie apocalypse done in 6 minutes all shot as if everything were tiny. It goes fast and is funny.

Maybe less toxic masculinity this year. Not as engaging as in the past, but with age I'm becoming more jaded, or maybe I have a false sense of a more utopian past. Anyway, Ep 9, Jibaro, is the one I'm most looking forward to. I think it's the last of the season.

Ok, I’m 4 deep too. I wanna be in your club.
1: Funny. Didn’t think it was preachy until I read your review, Greg. To me, it was preaching to the choir, so that worked for me. Should’ve anticipated the ending but it came as a delightful surprise.
2: I was told there would be robots.
Almost lovecraftian, complete with a random tentacle. It was okay. Needed a better sword fight… and a robot.
3: I’ve lived this trip. My fav so far.
4: Amusing style but I should’ve put my glasses on at got closer to the screen. My declining eyesight robbed me of the details.
All 4 had gorgeous animation. I was very entertained. Still D00M recommended.
Lemme know when you guys see the rest - I wanna be in the club too. Come on. Let me in.

Dude, we would totally let you into LD&R Club but the kewl kids have all seen episode 5 at this point.
5. Kill Team Kill. Seemed very Bakshi with lots of ultra-vi. Great voice cast. And robots. And death. And for CF, some Toxic Masculinity.

Yeah, maybe I'm mixing up terms and this is just a macho testosterone-driven wet-dream, but it sure feels toxic to me. I will admit, it's got great action, and it's a brilliant gorefest, and...
What follows that final "and" is what I would have liked, but it wasn't there.
The same goes for Ep 8, but I'm getting ahead of myself.
Ep6: Swarm. Visually the most arresting piece of animation. A lot of work went into this. I wasn't entirely satisfied with the denouement, but I almost never am.
Ep7: Mason's Rats. Farmer Mason has a rat problem. Technological warfare ensues. Lots of gore. Yeah, so much gore this year. Animation lends itself to gore so well.
Ep8: In Vaulted Halls Entombed. A military operation in what could be Afghanistan to kill insurgents and rescue a hostage. Well-done creatures, monsters, and gore (yeah, more gore). And alien architectures. But I didn't quite grok what was encountered and the why of everything. Though it did have a strong Cthulhu vibe.
Ep9: Jibaro. Have not seen. Saving for tonight, or whenever.

5 total toxic masculinity - bloody funny
6 Visionary but ultimately a replay of the Borg. But it wasn’t really about robots.
7 Amusing concept and yes, this season has a high sanguineousity factor. Must’ve been a sale on red.
8 This couldn’t be more lovecraftian. Again needed more bots
9 my pick of the season. Stunningly beautiful animation and a visionary take on the siren myth. I’ll forgive the lack of robots in this one.
All in all, another entertaining season. Too short tho, but perhaps that’s the point. Still D00M recommended.
So can I be in the club now? Huh? Can I?
