I will not be by myself until November, so that is when I can see it. Although, tQ did ask me "What the hell is Squid Game?" I told her the synopsis and she said pass.

Stacy doesn't enjoy anything where there's lots of shooting people in the head so she too gave it a hard pass. 

Of course, this severely limits what I might watch with her. 

Tara finished this before I did. She heard about it on TikTok a long time ago. She's watched so much anime that she's okay with sanguineousness, as long as it isn't gory. Blood splatters and forehead bullet holes are okay.

It's the subtitles. tQ likes to needlepoint or look at social media while the TV is on. Having subtitles kills both of those activities.

There might be a dubbed option. Toggle the menu.

I hadn't noticed that.  It must have happened during one of my naps.

Okay, I'm being facetious.
I think the subtitles are what made me amazed that this did so well.  A lot of Muricans won't stoop to watching that.  My younger brother never would.  I suspect there's a dubbed option.  It would be an interesting statistic to see how many watched it each way.

P.S. The Queen, being a special multi-tasking case, gets a pass.

They do have a dubbed version. It's behind the translation controversy. I'm not a fan of dubs.

I'm with you about dubs except for:

Old skool Hong Kong Kung Fu film dubs into that weird permutation of English

B-grade martial arts movies dubbed into Spanish. Original JCVD, even Seagal, is so much better in Spanish. 

Cantonese dubs into Mandarin. Okay, no, that often takes me a while to notice and then I get really confused.

I think I have already spoiled it by putting together your comments with the SNL Squid Game video. Dammit.

The second half of the show really picked up the pace for me. Although you had to go through the first half to get all the relationships once you get inside the game. I'm guessing no one is likable in the show or worth rooting for with the exception of 001? Don't tell me. More Squid tonight.
