Cats of DOOM
It's like Mortal Kombat every day here.

$260 for the treatment. They quoted me higher but i was expecting even much more than that.

That's not too bad. I always went in assuming that an unexpected vet trip would be $500.

Me, too.

Simon is doing much better. He no longer sits on the chair staring off into the distance seeming to wish for the sweet release of death. We kept him locked up the first day back and did warm compresses on his wounds. The doctor didn't give us a cone of shame for Simon because the wounds are all around his neck. But today he is out and about. He's up in the bird tree looking to snag a snack. He's back to hurrying over when we go out onto the back deck.

But he looks gruesome. The suppurating wound on his neck looks like it was made for a horror film. And since they shave a lot of the hair off that area, he looks like a skeleton in profile.

Also in fun-with-cats news, Banshee had a foxtail stuck in his eyesocket. The foxtail stuck straight out from his face and had probably a half inch of the tip embedded next to the eyeball. I should have snapped the picture before I removed the foxtail.

Happy Foxtail season everyone!

I remember foxtail season with our dogs. The constant sneezing turning into bloody sneezing. Poor animals.
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

I had to hold one of the cats, today, while tQ pulled a foxtail out of the cats eye socket. All you could see was the barest hint of a thread next to the cat's eye, but a whole foxtail came out.

I was just at UniTerrDP. It was closed this morning, and will close again tomorrow morning, for foxtail removal.

I was encouraged to see this. It’s our fav DP. Many of us that use it will spend time pulling up foxtails. Cool to see the city doing it. My local tax dollars at work.

Whelp. We are down to 12 cats. 14 went missing right after I got back from the Backpacking Trip. Cordelia joined the lost about two weeks ago. Oddly, we realized she was missing when we went to put her in the studio for the night as a protective measure and she was nowhere to be found.

Whelp. We lost another cat. Dammit. Oddly, Banshee went missing during the day. Banshee is one of the cats we put inside at night in the studio.

Yesterday at 5:30 pm we boarded Halvah at the vet's.  Now here we sit at home feeling guilty about it.  But they won't take pets for boarding on Sunday, and they close early on Saturday, and we fly out at 6:30 am Monday before they open.  So she'll be cooped up almost a day and a half while we're still here.

She's about 13 years old.  We've been giving her subcutaneous fluids every other day for two years.  Last month we increased it to every day.

LCF and I have serious concerns about this trip for various reasons -- and not all the same reasons.  But we're both concerned about how Halvah will tolerate this week at the vet.

I was wondering what your plans for Halvah were.

Hope your trip is successful and safe for all concerned.

I share some of your traveling trepidations.
