I stayed up late (for me) to watch the Men's Foil Team take on Russia on the USA network. Ibtihaj Muhammed does the color and some other guy does the play-by-play. I got the sense he didn't know much about fencing. He referred to actions as jousts. But the best was when he asked Ibtihaj to explain to him 'riposte'. Good times. Until USA lost to the ROC.
I saw lots of swimming finals. Saw the BMX event. Caught women's Beach Volleyball. The Canadian women were very attractive in that even.

Women’s wrestling was astonishingly entertaining.
High jump men’s was really cool. I want Barshim’s shades.
Luved Raven’s shotput masks. Gong was such a contrast.
Women’s triple jumpers are fierce. Rojas is giant.
Those JA sprinters tho.
And the golf! Ok, jk. Who watches Olympic golf? I don’t even have the patience for the highlights.

Stayed up for USA* beating Japan like a red-headed stepchild to take the bronze. Worth it. After falling asleep at 4:30 in the morning, I woke to the good news that those cheatin’ Rooskies were put down like the dogs that they are by the French. VIVE LA FRANCE!
*USA Men’s Foil Team, naturally.

I did enjoy France v ROC Women’s team Sabre even tho the ruskies won. Are we drug testing them?
ROC reminds me of Taiwan Republic of China.
I want to see more China coverage. They’ve got the most golds now and I’ve only seen fleeting athletes in gymno, shotput & table tennis.

Cut way back on my Olympics viewing. Saw some Beach Volleyball. Saw a lot of the preliminary heats for the 200m and 100m hurdles. How do those women run with such long hair? Very well, is the obvious answer. I did like in the one race were the woman who is competing in all the long distances was tripped up and fell during the prelims. She was conserving energy and holding back in the pack. She got up off the ground and went on to win the prelim. She raced like she was angry.
Saw some shot-put, hammer throw, canoe, water polo, BMX...

Been watching some Peacock, but mostly NBC over-the-air (rooftop antenna). Saw Hussan's fall, looking forward to the final now. Also many other middle distance finals. The problem is (as pointed out by DM) the taped recordings of the finals are captioned with the winners, spoiling it, and it's hard to find the times to watch the finals live.

I do a lot of jumping around between NBC, CNBC, NBCsn, and USA. Hopefully there will be a few events that are live. The problem is that our primetime, 5pm onwards, is the beginning of the day in Japan. You might catch some live finals around 8pm. But most of the finals take place when we are asleep. It's a game to catch them.

I’m only truly following the gymnastics. Peacock has been showing the finals replays and those are very engaging. I hope they show the rhythmic gymno.
Watched a little baseball with my mom. Also watched some badminton and the some sport climbing quals. Really hoping for some karate, which just started.

It's all about the Track and Field. It's funny that i can watch an event live on USA and then see the same event later on the main NBC channel.
Last night was High Jump and Shotput and Triple Jump and the Decathlon. Once again the USA Men's 4x100m relay team is tripped up by the baton exchange.

I guess I'm only in it for the gymnastics. I didn't watch any today. I was too preoccupied with other stuff.

The men's 1500 m final is looking mighty interesting. There's a couple of Kenyans, one of them the favorite. There's Hocker and Centrowitz from Eugene OR, though Centrowitz is out now, victim of a blistering Olympic record semi that saw him finish 9th. There's Great Britain's Wightman, and Norwegia's Ingebrigtsen. Any one of them could win, or there could be a surprise. Hocker came onto the scene just this year, winning lots of races with his final 200 m kick. Everyone knows he's a real danger if the pace is slow, so they're gunning for a fast pace, hoping to burn the sprint out of him.
So. When does it happen? Saturday at 4:40 am our time. That's tonight.
I actually called the Olympic Committee and asked if they could reschedule it for a more convenient time for me. They told me that they had specifically chosen that time for DM's benefit. I told them that DM doesn't even watch Track and Field. They said that you never know, he might change his mind, and he's a lot more important than I am.
So there you have it. Get up early or stay up late. There's likely to be fireworks.
The women's 1500 m final is also loaded. I'm hoping that happens about the same time. And I hope NBC covers these live. Because I'm depending on it.
I'm nobody's pony.

DM gets all the perks.
If Hocker wins, it will keep the streak alive of Team USA winning a gold medal in the running events. The exception was 1980 when we didn't compete.
I watched a lot of wrestling yesterday and the gold medal of the Women's Beach Volleyball. It wasn't even close in the Volleyball. Basketball is on tonight in prime time.
