Season 5 premiere

A great surreal launch. Each chapter began with "Previously On" and then a date from 2020, while significant events play havoc on the cast. A character catches covid. They relive the passing of RBG, George Floyd, Kamala's nomination, Biden's win, Jan 6, and more. It's well played, sharp and witty as always. Actually got us both giggling at the satire.

And two main characters - Adrian and Luka - bid goodbye. That's tough. Adrian is Delroy Lindo, who I've known from many actioners. He's great as the partner lawyer. Luka is the up-and-coming legal rock star who seemed to have more story to tell. But both actors are moving on and just did this ep to say 'goodbye.'

At the end of the ep was the usual beginning credits - objects in a dark room - but instead of blowing up, a gang of super cute animal pop up - kittens, puppies, marmots, ducklings, penguins - a hilarious twist.

Next week should be normal, adjusting to the cast changes.

Remember Sweet Tooth e7? http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomFor...0#pid48270 s5e2 totally goes there - with Mandy Patankin no less. A genuine lol from ol’ DM.

A new character is introduced and she’s great. The new hierarchy of the firm is established and things are on course for S5. We’re back to the exploding opening credits with some tweaks about what is blowing up. Wallace Shawn returns too, which is hysterical. All is good in The Good Fight.

S5e3. They’re going after Section 230 and catching insurrectionists. Jane Lynch reprises her FBI character with zeal. Stephen Lang, who I remember from Into The Badlands enters as the 230 benefactor (timely given Trump’s fb & Twitter lawsuit). Mandy continues to be Mandy, only no more grateful in this Ep sadly.

E4: a bit of a dip in the momentum. An analysis of appropriate jokes but it just spins it’s wheels. Mandy makes another quick grateful quip, alongside a monty Python one. The Jan 6 grand juries move forward. Jane Curtain & Meryl’s daughter reprise their roles.

E5: This Ep got dark delving into covid death rooms and Jay’s post covid hallucinations. Not as strong as the first 3 but it made its points.

E6: I giggled out loud three times. That never happens, especially not for a tv show.  It’s back on track. It’s a lot about Mandy’s appearances and combined with my first snl crush Jane Curtain, there were some fine giggles. The RGB cameo was well played.

e7 - It got a good chuckle out of me. Still very entertaining.

Just read where S5 will have 10 eps and this is renewed for S6.

E8: It’s getting muddled with Mandy’s court. Wanda Sykes is a decent addition.

E9 & E10 (S5 finale): ultimately this worked towards a reflection of the chaos of our times in all of its absurd ugliness. Mandy’s arc is done. I doubt he’ll return for S6. Things wrapped up without a significant cliffhanger - a decent finale that gave some closure, and yet left the door wide open for the next season, given how covid crushed their production plans. Navigating covid sent this show sideways, and yet it came out okay, more or less, and offered some processing of Jan 6, as well as other recent disruptions.

We’ll likely let go of Paramount+ when this payment runs its course. I luv my Star Trek, but can’t justify the cost for one half hour weekly cartoon. Stacy & I both luv The Good Fight so we’ll come back for S6. Maybe I’ll come back for one of the upcoming ST series. We’ll see.

Regarding this show, I highly recommend it. It’s got a wittiness you’d all enjoy and some shared political views. No sword fights but if you’ve never watched it, give it a pass. It’s different than The Good Wife, although that was amusing too. This got so much better.

S6.1 Capt Holt joins the cast. Whaaaat?!?
And Diane is going to take a trip? WHAAATTT?!

The show is back and it’s still fire. Funny, witty, satirical, sharp… but bound by the times.

E2 This show is so spot on. The return of Eli. Fucking hilarious as he might say. I forgot he was Marissa’s dad. Diane’s drug trip has been hilarious too.

I imagine the way right wingers love Dukes of Hazard is parallel to how liberals feel about this show. It’s just so sly, witty and woke. Capt Holt from Brooklyn 99 is killing his new role here. So good to see him again.

I will be sad when this show ends. This is the final season.

I watched e3 two days ago but didn’t mention it. It was good as always. Diane’s trips get more amusing. The riots keep escalating. There was a football case that grappled with racism and cte. It had an explosive ending. Wallace Shawn gets busted.

E4 began with a warning for viewers who don’t like splattered brains (it actually said that) so Stacy had me watch it first. The splattered brains was shocking because it comes out of no where, and it’s a fantastic plot pivot. We learn more about Da’vid (Holt). Mostly, it’s the end of Eli’s story arc and it’s very touching. Diane, while possibly still tripping, explains the Good Fight in a nutshell. When Eli exits, Marissa worries that she’ll never see him again and seeing how this is the final season, she may be right. Very poignent.

E5: This show is pulling out all stops for the finale. Is Liz being called by Ginni Thomas? Is Marissa being stalked by white supremacists with green shoelaces? Is Ri’chard going to sue a fetus? Is Jay going to join a black revolutionary underground?

As long as Dianne keeps trippin, I’m completely entertained.

This ep recalled some reoccurring characters - the wacky Elsbeth and that webcaster dude.

I still throughly D00M recommend this series with the caveat that it won’t age well. It’s such a parody on today’s news that so much of the impact will be lost as time goes by. And it’s a show that has a ton of backstory (Elsbeth goes back to the original series The Good Wife). I think you could just jump in on The Good Fight but Wife was great too.

Halfway through this finale season now. I’m sure going to miss this show and these characters. I hope there’s another spin off in the future.

E6: A pivot ep. Ri’Chard rallies the team to help save his nephew’s life - he needs a bone marrow transplant. It’s good to see them rally, and this ep skirts the usual political parodies. Plus Andre Braugher shows off some fierce acting chops - he’s so good here.

Interesting twist with Carmen’s lover looking like Marissa. Also the ep end was a bloody twist.

Btw did you know Audrey MacDonald has a downtown street named after her in Fresno? I had no idea.
