You know Star Trek comics were done by Marvel for a while. But due to some weird licensing rights, they could only use the Motion Picture ST stuff. You like Marvel, don't you Greg? You like it a lot.

Quote:EXCLUSIVE: ‘STAR TREK: DISCOVERY’ RENEWED FOR SEASON 5 AT CBS ALL ACCESS
By Emre Kaya

Exclusive: Yes, you’re reading this correctly, CBS All Access has renewed ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ for a fifth season! Even though season 3 has not aired yet, CBS has already decided to renew the hit sci-fi adventure series for season 5.
Three weeks ago, we revealed that the fourth season will start production in July. Today, we have learned that CBS is planning on shooting seasons 4 and 5 back-to-back. Production will take place in Pinewood Studios, Toronto, Canada.
‘Star Trek: Discovery’ is the seventh series in the franchise, and the first one since ‘Star Trek: Enterprise’ concluded in 2005. The series begins roughly a decade before the events of the original ‘Star Trek’ series and follows the crew of the USS Discovery on various adventures.
The cast includes Sonequa Martin-Green (‘The Walking Dead’), Doug Jones (‘Hellboy’), Shazad Latif (‘Penny Dreadful’), Anthony Rapp (‘Rent’), Mary Wiseman (‘Marriage Story’), and Wilson Cruz (’13 Reasons Why’), along with Jason Isaacs (‘Fury’) for the first season, Anson Mount (‘Inhumans’) for the second, and David Ajala (‘Supergirl’) for the third.
The series was announced in November 2015, with Bryan Fuller (‘Hannibal,’ ‘American Gods’) acting as showrunner from February to October 2016, but leaving due to creative differences with CBS. He was replaced by Gretchen J. Berg & Aaron Harberts (‘Reign,’ ‘Roswell’), who received producing support from Akiva Goldsman (‘Batman & Robin,’ ‘Titans’). Goldsman did not return after the first season, while Berg and Harberts were fired by CBS during production on the second. Producer Alex Kurtzman (‘Sleepy Hollow,’ ‘Hawaii Five-0’) took over as showrunner for season 3 and was joined by Michelle Paradise (‘The Originals’) for the third season.
There is currently no airdate for the upcoming third season of ‘Discovery.’

And we're back. Stacy caved (her words) and signed us up for CBS Access again. She's into The Good Fight and given the SIP has determined it is essential.
I went straight for the next round of Short Treks. "Q&A" was the backstory of Spock's first step onboard the Enterprise as an ensign where he gets trapped in an elevator with #1 (played by Rebecca Romjin in the DISCOverse). As I mentioned with DISCO, I dislike DISCOSpock. I like the Kelvin timeline Spock because he stifles his rage, which I fimd an intriguing alternate reality twist. DISCOSpock is younger, more naive, more awkward, and more easily amused. Don't like him. He lacks the gravitas. This ep was penned by Chabon and dedicated to another Chabon (his dad maybe). I'm starting to dislike Chabon's screenwriting. It tries too hard to be clever and sacrifices the moral of the stories.
I'll watch more later.

"The Trouble with Edward"
If you know your ST:TOS, you know where this is going with the first 3 words of the title. It's their creation story. It's cute and fits into canon snugly, explaining a random cameo in DISCO. It feels like fan fiction almost and there's even a parody breakfast cereal ad after the credits. Amusing enough for a short under 15 min. A good role for Rosa Salazar, who had her face digitally anime-ed in Alita ( http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomFor...p?tid=4829).
As I said before, many of DISCO's throwback character reboots to TOS fail. Don't like Spock, #1, Sarek, Mudd (although the Short Trek Mudd was okay). I do like Pike. Pike is the one win. I saw him on a panel at SVCC last year and he was very eloquent. There's talk about doing a spin off series with him, but there's talk of many such ST spins now. CBS Access even has a topmost navbar button just for ST. I'd watch Pike, even with Ensign Spock.

"Ask Not"
A super Short Trek. Barely 10 mins. All about Pike. Saw through it quickly because it's all about Pike. But still entertaining.
"Ephraim and Dot"
Another super short trek, this one under 10 mins. Animated. The tale of a tardigrade. Tardigrades figure heavily in DISCO because they can bridge space and time, and this ep is all about eggs, tardigrade eggs and easter eggs. It references the animated series (which I've always felt was vastly underrated) and then drops refs to great TOS eps, SPOILERS Khan, tribbles, fencing Sulu (yes, a sword!), the doomsday device, Apollo, Lincoln, then some of the films END SPOILERS. It's actually kinda dumb but saved by the eggs.
"The Girl Who Made the Stars"
The rest of the Short Treks are all under 10 min. This one sucked. It's DISCO's Michael (the central character who I don't really like) as a child getting a story told to her by her dad. It's animated and the story is a universe creation story starting in Africa. Hold the communicator - wasn't it Star Wars that was bought out by Disney? I know it was because this ain't no Disney+. It's CBS Access. So WTH was that? I want my 10 mins. back.
One more for this season's methadone. Might as well finish this.
"Children of Mars"
Two teenage girls are locked in a school rivalry set to Bowie's 'Heroes'. One human (I assume) and the other is a cool looking alien that I didn't recognize (so many aliens in ST now). Both are alone on earth while their single parents are workers on Mars.
This barely makes much sense but sets up ST: Picard.
And now we wait for the return of DISCO...

CBS Adds Star Trek: Discovery for Fall Season
Andrew Liptak
Wed Aug 26, 2020 4:11pm 1 comment Favorite This
Star Trek is coming back to television—real television—this fall. The network announced that it’ll be airing Star Trek: Discovery on its main network starting in September as the network deals with the fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic impacting its traditional filming season.
Star Trek: Discovery debuted as a lead title for CBS’s streaming service CBS All Access back in 2017 (its pilot also aired on CBS), but has otherwise remained exclusive to All Access. The network will air the entire first season of Discovery starting on September 24th.
BUY IT NOW
The first season will come just before the show’s third season debuts on All Access on October 15th. Undoubtedly, the move is aimed at raising awareness of the series for CBS’s larger viewing audience, but recycling the show does help the network with a more pressing problem—going into the fall TV season without a lot of shows.
CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl explained that the move has a simple reason: COVID-19, which interrupted the typical annual filming schedule. “This is hardly a traditional fall season, but we are prepared with a strong slate of original content while our regular scripted series begin production.”
While productions are starting to resume around the world, many networks would have been well into the production of their regular programming, but Hollywood’s been shut down. All Access’s pool of original content comes in handy here—it has a smaller viewership than its regular network cousin, and thus a larger pool of potential viewers, who’ll now have something to watch this fall.

Season 1 isn’t that good overall. Things don’t get trekking until season 2.

ST has always been great at social commentary. The Federation has fallen. Now to pick up the pieces.

Exclusive: Star Trek’s Discovery And Picard Coming To Netflix
We have exclusively learned that CBS is working on bringing its new Star Trek shows to Netflix in the United States. Currently the company has four new Trek series running on its streaming network CBS All-Access: Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, Star Trek: Lower Decks and Short Treks. All four have struggled to find an audience and while some might blame the quality of the shows, my sources at CBS tell me they think the big problem is getting the word out about CBS All-Access.
They’ve tried to raise awareness in the past, by broadcasting some Star Trek: Discovery episodes on CBS network proper, but it didn’t work. The show only scored a 0.2 rating when it aired on network television. So now, according to my source, CBS is considering bringing some of its streaming Star Trek programming to Netflix instead.
This source is the same source that made me the first reporter anywhere to break the news that Wonder Woman 1984 was going direct to streaming. They’re heavily involved in various streaming deals and though I’m unable to reveal my source’s identity I’ve verified where they got their information. It’s reliable.
Patrick Stewart in Star Trek: Picard
According to my exclusive source CBS believes that by offering up some of its Star Trek shows to Netflix users, viewers who are already primed to spend money on streaming, they’ll be able to get crossover to CBS All-Access. So they’re in negotiations to bring Star Trek: Discovery, Star Trek: Picard, and Star Trek: Lower Decks to Netflix.
Star Trek already has a strong presence on Netflix. Several other older Star Trek shows like Star Trek: Enterprise are currently available to watch there via legacy streaming deals with Netflix. So a Star Trek fan base does exist on Netflix and in many cases they still haven’t crossed over to CBS All-Access to watch any of the new Trek programming. It makes sense that CBS would want to court those viewers.
Whether it’ll only be older episodes of Discovery, Picard, and possibly Lower Decks which will show up on Netflix, or whether they’ll actually get to air new ones when they’re released, remains to be seen. Netflix would obviously like new episodes, but CBS selling them the rights to those would probably mean they’re finally giving up on CBS All-Access as a going concern.
Scene from Star Trek: Lower Decks
It’s worth noting that CBS and Netflix have already closed some other deals recently, deals which would bring other new CBS shows to the uber-sized streaming platform. For instance, CBS just licensed the first season of their new show Evil & Unicorn to Netflix rather than hoarding it for proprietary viewing on their own streaming CBS All-Access platform. There’s an established pathway for the two companies to work together, and working together on Star Trek is the biggest play possible.

Me, too.
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.
