Cats of DOOM
Yesterday, I gave five more cats to Kimi. Kimi works as a volunteer getting cats spayed. Kimi will foster the kittens and get them adopted. We gave up Michael, Margaret, Brigid-Clare, Clare-Brigid and Maleficent. Originally, I was going to give them Banshee instead of Margaret, but Kimi already has a ton of black cats waiting to be adopted and wanted at least one non-black cat.

It's very quiet here at the Lair with five fewer cats. It's a bit sad, too since they were all good cats, too. Although it was much easier to get only four cats into the studio than the previous nine. Fainí was against going into the studio and gave me some really nice scratches on my hand when I tired to put her in there.

For those playing along at home, we now have the auspicious number of cats, 13.

To quote the QOE 'Black cat lives matter'

So for those of us not keeping tally, how many cats are left at Lynch Lair now?

Okay. On the disclaimer notice for the house, it revealed there were several "Faro" cats on the property. The first group was named Ramses, Ishtar, Anubis, and Nefertiri.

Upon entering the house there was a bit saying here is some food for the "Farrell" cats on the property. We named Nefertiri's kittens Wil, Mike, Colin, and Mia. Sidenote: we never found any cat food.

We named Mike after his mother Mike. Simon is named after Simon Morden an author who I friended on FB. I told him we were naming all the kittens after him but settled on just one.

Finchin, Finoula and Finbar were all named for Irish saints since we had just returned from Ireland.

Fainí is the cat who followed me home and goes on walks with me. Fainí was supposed to be Irish for wanderer.

The final batch we defaulted to Irish names again, with the exception of Banshee, who was a screamer and Maleficent who is just evil.

I hope that helps.

N-i-c-e.  All things have a reason.

When I first met LCF's parents in Moscow (Idaho) back in 1978, they had a 20-year-old cat named Cat.

For 42 years now I have been trying to get LCF to explain the derivation of that name.

That helps a lot. I mean what else are we going to do while self quarantining other than compulsively check DOOM for witty or sarcastic banter. It’s not like it’s activation day today.

I’ve often called my pets by their species, but they have given names too. Maybe that’s speciesist? Nowadays I just don’t know anymore.

At the most, we had twelve kittens. We probably would have more if Mia didn't take her litter off to points unknown and then they disappeared? Maybe they went to Croatoan.

Twelve kittens is a lot, especially when they rush you when you open the back door or you have to round them up at the end of the day. We didn't like them being out all night so we shut them in the studio.

Three were adopted out. Five were given to a foster service. It's amazing how different the activity level was with eight of the twelve missing. It was a little sad but twelve is way too many kittens.

Yesterday, Cordelia went missing. Even though we are down to four kittens, you can instantly tell when one is missing. The destruction travels in a pack and I quickly noticed the pack was down to three tiny terrorists.

At first, I figured Cordelia was off doing other things. Maybe she was under the deck or off reading a good book.

Cordelia had walked to the end of the street with me in the morning along with Fanoula and Fainí to the mailbox. I carried her back but I hadn't seen her since then.

Late in the day, I feared the worse. I hadn't seen Cordelia in eight hours and feared the worst. When a cat goes missing at the Lair, the cat is missing for good.

Sadly, at sunset, we packed the three remaining members of the destruction into the studio. We through Finchen and Fainí in their for good measure.

As I walked back to the house, I thought I spotted Mama Freeloader by the cars in her usual perch on the concrete pallets. As I got closer, I realized it wasn't Mama at all, but our missing cat, no longer missing. I guess she had been off reading a book.

But it was weird. I shouldn't be that worried about missing one of our thirteen cats. But I did. And I'm very glad she's back.

I had a programmer friend who's cat was named "Random".

Did I mention that my GF decided we should foster kittens last month? We got 2 from a litter of 6 - a boy and a girl, 4 weeks old. We set up the downstairs bathroom as a nursery and then were on feeding duty every couple of hours. Funny thing is we're both working from home with full time jobs, and we have another cat ("the kitten", who's now 9 years old) who we didn't tell about the whole idea. It was a bit of unnecessary stress and after 1 1/2 weeks, my GF decided maybe we shouldn't foster kittens and found a forever home for them. They were very cute. Their new dad named them "Luke" and "Leia" which was totally perfect...

I think right about now, DOOM needs a couple mellow pictures.
