Today has been a good day.
I got offered a part-time position (20 hours a week) at the place that I interviewed for last week. We're moving to the next step to nail down the details.
I got tapped by an old friend to do a freelance interview. Compensation is minimal but it's for a prestigious outlet, one that I would love to continue to serve as a reporter. The phoner is next Monday, interview due Thursday morning, akin to the schedule I used to abide by for screeners for KFM.
I also got asked to provide some photos for that iMort consulting job so their artist can create a team avatar for me.
I was pretty glum this morning - it was grey out and I had those major covid blues. But things have turned around. Tonight we're celebrating with some take-out.

I [heart] good news.
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

A friend from the martial world reached out to me about teaching a zoom class on weapons for a $100 honorarium. I replied to get more details.
Alas...freelancing...

Albertson? He's not a martial artist.

Then how the heck did he get in DOOM? He fenced a little, didn't he? That counts.
I've always loved the term 'freelancer' from its ronin-like origins. And I'm pretty good with a lance...that is if you call a guandao a lance.
The interview went okay. I confess I was unusually nervous about it, mostly because of the change in tech. I keep forgetting how many tools I leave behind with TC. I need to freshen up my arsenal.
Stacy has been enabling my image shift. She's searching new attire (sorely needed) and has me set up for a trim.

Clothes maketh the DM. You’ll be amazed how much getting a change of costume and a trim can do for your mood. Glad the interview went “okay” for you, so probably actually went very well by industry standards. Guando totally count as a lance if you are freelancing.

I picked up a gig to produce 3 hour-long webinars for the national governing body of Wushu, the USAWKF. It's a contentious org, one that TC officially broke ties with due to their shenanigans, but the offer came through one of the new young turks of the org, someone who is a personal trusted friend. It's a simple gig for me actually - the topics are weapons. It feels a little weird tho - like being the ronin hired by the rival shogunate. Freelance life.

So...
I was scheduled for a meeting with Imort at 3 but it got cancelled at the very last minute. Just before it got cancelled, I got a call from the potential part-time position that I've been offered. We had planned an online meeting next Wednesday, but they wanted to know if I was available now, which I wasn't because I was waiting for the Imort call to happen. Now both meetings have been postponed to Friday and I'm sitting here with a fresh cup of tea, feeling annoyed.
Alas, Freelance life...
Imort has been announced. I'm consulting for a comic by Immortal Studios. The first issue is called The Adept. I know y'all probably get plenty of spam already, but I'll be grateful if you sign up for their Kickstarter notifications here.
Ordinarily I wouldn't commit to a Kickstarter, but they've already made good on their first compensation check for me, and that check is in the bank, so I'll stick with them until the checks stop coming.

Thanks! It's been a rather fun job actually. The pay is decent for the time spent. I only wish they had more hours for me...
