This sis the current controversy bait show. People hate it. People are luke warm about it. It's based on a series of video games which are based on the books. The people who read the books aren't happy because of the usual reasons. I don't know what the video game people are thinking, although the star of the show, Henry 'Superman' Cavill loves the video games so much he had to be in the show.
I read the first book and never read any more. It was Meh.
Everybody who has positive reviews about the shows says you have to get through the first couple of episodes before the show hits its stride. I hope so. The first episode is really ponderous. It needs somebody to punch up the laughs. Superman's main technique is to give side eye glares. And he has a massive stick up his butt.
The production quality lapses into TV show values. The sets, to my eye, look like sets. And for some reason, I was only understanding every other line of dialogue. The actors do have thick accents, but I also think they weren't mic'ed properly. It also could be my ongoing head cold messing with my hearing.
They do show one long continuous sword fight as the Witcher takes on all comers. And there is a giant battle scene.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm

I’m hearing good things from Grimdark friends about it. I’ll tune in soon.
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

Episode 2 is a world builder episode. It's all about the different factions in the world. But they introduce some comic relief in the form of the bard who wants to hang with Gareth to learn about real adventuring.
No sword fights. One battle, more of a raid.

Ep3 complete.
The show is getting better. I still spend a lot of time trying to determine what the hell the story is. In Ep 3, it was the case of who raped who to create what. But their is more humor. One line did make me laugh out loud. The show is still in set up mode. There was nudity for the first time and a lot of it. Most of it covered in mud.
I think the Queen might even be paying attention.

Ep4 an Ep5 complete. Thrown a coin to the Witcher.
Ep4 had another sword fight/melee. Ep5 has more sex. Still muddy.
We just realized they are messing with the timeline without mentioning they are messing with the timeline. In Ep5, we were saying those characters look very familiar but.... and then we realized Ep5 sets up Ep2.
I'm enjoying it more. The Witcher hates everyone and that's a stance I can approve of.

Did about four episodes and then gave it up. I just wanted him to go around fighting monsters. The complicated plot they were setting up didn't grab me.

Finished ep III, will continue tonight, now that GF is delivered to the airport. I’m enjoying it, but I am not looking for depth and have no compunction about using the fast-forward if things get too talky or the background info is about a character I don’t care about.

All done. Had to view Ep8 after the cliff hanger of Ep7.
Everyone eventually gets on the same timeline. I'm beginning to think that Yennifer's main acting device is pouting while Geralt is grunting and saying Fuck.
It kind of plateaus. It's not getting better from episode to to episode. The jumping around the timelines can be confusing.
Ep8 is a bit of a let down and very much a cliff hanger for the next season. Plus, Geralt doesn't do much in Ep8.
I'm giving it a resounding meh.

Finally finally finally got around to this. Ep 1 was okay I guess. Superman struck me like a weak highlander wannabe. There’s no way Cavill could draw that sword off his shoulder. I’m not finding the characters engaging.
Nice swordfight tho. That was a decent one-er, complex but the shaky cam amped it up. The big battle was good in a stabby way.

E2 No swordfights. No nudity. I did like the new story arc with Piglet even though I wasn’t quite sure where it was going. The ol’ elf vs human trope feels cliche. Didn’t like the bard.
Is there gonna be another good sword fight? I’m only in it for the sword fights.

The show ebbs and flows. It's got some good stuff. It's got some bad stuff. It plays with time so some scenes aren't happening at the same time. It's a slow build.

ebbs, flows, good, bad, blah, blah, blah.
I'm askin bout swordfights.
I've decided I don't really like Cavill...except as the Superman who gets his ass whupped by Batman. He was good in that role.
