Back in Iquitos after 2 weeks in Amazon. Adolf Hitler sightings. Rumors of Einstein. Airport closed due to vultures. Still hope to make Ecuador by the hour of the jaguar.

When did Cranefly become the international man of mystery? And again my life pales into insignificance.

Dude, i only go places where they have plumbing. What's next for you? Darfur?

I would really like to see some pictures, though, when you get back!

Stay safe!

Doesn't everybody create a web site and upload trip pix instantly?

Or is that just Greg?
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

TQ: never never use greg as a standard of comparision for others. besides, if there's no plumbing, there's probably not high speed internet access...

The Volcano watch? Does it erupt every hour? I want one now.

Iquitos? Where they make doritos or taquitos?

And why wouldn't you follow my lead. I'm the Doom trendsetter. What I say goes, right. Okay. Dream break over. Go about your business.

We're back, alive and intact.
Ecuador was ... disturbing.
When we arrived at the small resort on the side of the Tungurahua volcano, we found it deserted, except for a skeletal staff. We suspect it might have had something to do with the fact that the volcano was erupting.
Okay, erupting might be too strong a word. In July 2006, it rumbled and spewed lots of ash, tossed some big rocks, and had some lava flow.. Some houses were buried in ash, and a few people were killed by the gases.
Since that time, it's been spewing ash pretty steadily. The day before our arrival, the resort got a layer of ash, and it was still being cleaned up while we were there. As an example, all the Calla lilies were gray.
We spent a week there, which got mighty boring. Despite claims by the website that the staff speaks English as well as Spanish, they didn't speak a word of it. Lots of confusion, miscommunications, and minimal service, and doing anything at all cost extra, on top of the bundle we were already paying. The volcano was neat, but one day would have sufficed for that.

The two weeks in the Amazon, however, were fantastic. Every day was filled with new adventures.

Anyway, I need to catch up on work for a few days. Then I'll try to provide photos and anecdotes in a reasonable format. Oh, and I need to catch up on Doom. Everyone still sane?

What G-Man said. Too much toad-licking, I think.

Well, it's gone from active to more active, according to this news article.

Yes, I've been terribly remiss in providing photos of our trip.
But here's a handful of Ecuador photos I just put on my website, which you can look at if you wish:

If only there were a place to put photos on our site. That would be great wouldn't it?

More technology to learn.
I just got a cell phone a month ago after lots of pressure from friends.

Now they make fun of me because I leave it at home when I go out.

I hate it. I absolutely hate it.
And now one friend keeps text-messaging me. My replies pretty much eat up the rest of the day.

I'll tackle a photo album later this week, honest. And I appreciate your donation of the space. Really.
