Quote:Permanent Sailor Moon restaurant opening in Tokyo with live stage shows every day!

Moon power, every night.

There’s a steady parade of anime-themed cafes and restaurants that pop up in Japan. Fun as they are, though, there’s usually only enough love for a single specific series to power the eateries for a few weeks, after which they close up shop and otaku palates move on to the next.
Sailor Moon, though, is a special case. Though the series started in 1991, it’s yet to be dethroned as Japan’s premier magical girl anime/manga franchise, and so there’s a permanent Sailor Moon restaurant opening in Tokyo next month!
Called Sailor Moon Shining Moon Tokyo, the restaurant of course offers Sailor Moon-themed food, like the Pretty Guardian Lunch Box and Moon Prism Rice Burger for lunch, or the Sailor Planet Round SushiMako-chan-invented Somen cold noodles, or Tsukino Family’s Bunny Curry for dinner.
As for drinks, in the afternoon you can choose from the Usagi Strawberry Smoothie or Mamoru Ice Coffee, with the lineup expanding to pink lemonade, blue cider, red cider, green nectar, golden mango, and black sugar coffee to cover each Sailor Senshi, and Tuxedo Mask’s, image colors at night.
But the biggest draw of all isn’t what’s on the menu, but what’s on stage! While lunch is strictly a dining and drinking affair, every evening a live Sailor Moon stage show will be performed for fans who’ve come to the restaurant for dinner.
With three performances per night, each role is played by one of two actresses, in order to lesson the workload on any single thespian. For Sailor Moon, the part is shared by Reona Samejima and Shina Tanaka.
As for the rest of the Sailor Senshi:
▼ Kokona and Yui Hayashi as Sailor Mercury
[Image: sm-7.png?w=640&h=357]
▼ Mika Taguchi and Ayaka Ozaki as Sailor Mars
[Image: sm-8.png?w=640&h=357]

Quote:▼ Mayuka Ida and Ayaka Ozaki as Sailor Jupiter
[Image: sm-9.png?w=640&h=357]
▼ Nanae Abe and Yu Nakanishi as Sailor Venus
[Image: sm-10.png?w=640&h=357]
And finally, as Tuxedo Mask, Hikari Aoba and Sufa.
As for where in Tokyo the restaurant will be located, you won’t find it in Akihabara, Ikebukuro, Nakano, or any of the other otaku hotspots. Instead, Sailor Moon Shining Moon Tokyo will be opening in the swanky Azabu Juban district, the neighborhood where Usagi/Sailor Moon lived in the anime/manga, as well as where series creator Naoko Takeuchi has lived for a significant part of her life.
In a unique system, individual menu items has no specific price. Instead, you purchase a “ticket” to the restaurant, which gets you your choice of one food item and one drink. At lunch, tickets cost 3,500 yen (US$32), and dinner tickets (i.e. the tickets for if you want to watch the stage show) are priced at either 7,500 or 8,500 yen, depending on the specific seat. Lunch is served from noon to 1:30 p.m., while the 100-minute dinner seating start at 4, 6:30, and 9 p.m., with their respective 40-minute stage shows beginning at 5, 7:30, and 10.
Sailor Moon Shining Moon Tokyo’s grand opening will take place on August 15, and from then until the end of October, seating will be by prior reservation only. Reservations open to the general public on July 21, and can be made through the restaurant’s official website.

Quote:Free Sailor Moon condoms to be given out by Japanese government
[Image: sc-1-1.png?w=640&h=447]
The next time you’re thinking of having sex, think of Sailor Moon.

The English version of the Sailor Moon theme song tells us, right off the bat, that she’s all about “Fighting evil by moonlight” and within the context of the anime that means battling villains like Queen Beryl, Wiseman, and their monstrous minions. Of course, in reality we don’t have to worry about such sinister supernatural entities, but Sailor Moon is still looking out for our real-world nocturnal safety and wants to help protect us not from a monster of the week, but from sexually transmitted diseases and infections.
Unfortunately, Sailor Moon’s Moon Stick, Cutie Moon Rod, and other assorted weaponry is of little use in this regard. That’s why, in keeping with anime magical girl tradition, she’s getting some new items to help her in this fight: Sailor Moon condoms!
This might seem like another chapter in the inexhaustible money-making marketing potential of the Sailor Moon franchise (after all, it wasn’t all that long ago that Sailor Moon feminine hygiene sanitary pads went on sale). However, it turns out that Sailor Moon condoms are totally freeA three-way collaboration between the Japanese government’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, HIV-awareness organization Act Against AIDS, and Okamoto Lovers Lab (a division of Japanese condom maker Okamoto Condoms), the Sailor Moon condoms will be handed out for free at two upcoming events. The first will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Mark Is Fukuoka Momochi shopping complex in Fukuoka City on October 5, and the second from noon to 4 p.m. on October 14 at the Alice Garden event space in downtown Hiroshima City, with both events timed so that recipients will be in possession of the condoms in time for any naked transformation sequences they might be engaging in later those nights.
The condoms come in a heart-shaped package with a smiling, super-deformed version of Sailor Moon, accompanied by her mentor cat Luna and drawn by series creator and manga artist Naoko Takeuchi. There’s no word as to whether the condoms themselves are lovingly decorated with artwork, like Okamoto’s ukiyo-e woodblock print condoms, but given Okamoto’s firm, long-standing reputation for quality condoms, they should do the job just fine when it’s time to do the deed.
Oh, and while the purpose of the events is to raise awareness of sexually transmitted diseases and the importance of HIV testing, it’s worth remembering that condoms are also a pretty effective form of birth control. So if you cringe every time Sailor Moon’s daughter Chibiusa is on screen, consider that she could have avoided having to deal with the brat by having Tuxedo Mask strap up.

Quote:Here's Why Sailor Mars Was Wearing a Mask in a Pre-COVID World

It's common in other anime shows, too!
by Christa I. De La Cruz
(SPOT.ph) Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic started, health experts have always emphasized the use of a face mask especially when you're sick. This prevents droplets from a COVID-19 patient's mouth and nose from spreading and lowers the chances of infecting other people with the coronavirus. In Japan, face masks have long been worn as part of
everyday attire, especially during flu season. Even Sailor Mars was wearing one in an old episode of Sailor Moon way back in the early '90s.

In a Twitter post that started blowing up on July 15, @SeventhEvan posted a shot of Sailor Mars (or Rei Hino), who showed up in a fight alongside Sailor Moon while wearing a mask because she had the flu.
Other people were quick to point out the common use of face masks in other anime shows:

The practice of mask-wearing in Japan started in the early years of the 20th century with the influenza pandemic. Subsequently, in 1923, the sky was filled with smoke and ash for weeks after the Great Kanto Earthquake. With the quality of air compromised, people in Tokyo and Yokohama turned to the protection of face masks.
In the 1930s, the country was again hit with a flu epidemic. Since the Japanese have always been aware of social courtesy, those with a cough and cold would wear a mask to avoid transmitting germs. By the 1950s, Japan—as well as China and Koreafaced the problem of air pollution following rapid industrialization post-World War II. This pushed more Asians to wear face masks regularly, not just to protect themselves from infected and polluted air, but also to protect others from mouth-borne germs and viruses.

The newest movie in the hugely popular Sailor Moon franchise, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal The Movie (which was originally released in two parts), is hitting Netflix on June 3. The movie’s arrival on Netflix marks its premiere for the first time outside of Japan, where Part 1 debuted in January.
You can watch a teaser trailer for it here:

Here’s Netflix’s synopsis of the film:

Quote:The upcoming adventures are set in April, when the cherry blossoms are in bloom and Tokyo is in a festive mood as it celebrates the largest Total Solar Eclipse of the century. As the new moon obscures the sun and gradually dims its light, Usagi and Chibi-Usa encounter Pegasus, who is in search of the chosen Maiden who can break the seal of the Golden Crystal. Meanwhile, a mysterious troupe called the Dead Moon Circus appears in town who’s nefarious plan is to scatter the nightmare incarnations known as Lemures, seize the ‘Legendary Silver Crystal,’ rule over the moon and the earth, and eventually dominate the entire universe…
Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal is Netflix’s latest addition to its ever-growing anime slate. Anime is quickly becoming a key focus for Netflix — the company committed to launching 40 anime titles in 2021 alone just last month, as animation becomes a front in the ongoing streaming wars. That lineup includes Yasuke, a show about a Black samurai in feudal Japan that premieres on April 29th.
The new Sailor Moon movie joins Netflix’s already jam-packed summer movie lineup, which I wrote about earlier today.

Sailor Moon Eternal

This is a redux of Sailor Moon Super S which was the anime version of the manga Dreams. I’m told the anime strayed significantly from the manga so fans disdained it, but I liked this season because of the Dark Circus theme, the revealing nightmares of the Sailor guardians, and the ridiculous Fay villains.

This new film returns to the original anime style, different from the more Barbie-like Sailor Moon Crystal redux that I never finished. It’s trying to pack too much into an hour and a half. The lemures are like mean Miyazaki dust sprites crossed with angry sea urchins.

They females (heroines & villainesses) are too sexy. The Sailor Guardians were always leggy with short skirts but now they’re even leggier with more almost up skirt shots. The villianesses are way too bikini outfitted. It’s spoiling the innocence of it. There’s increased focus on the transformations with more time spent on the nude silhouettes as their sailor suits wrap them. It’s annoying and unnecessary.

It’s had some good twists like the Usagi/chibi swap, but it goes nowhere story wise. It just happens and then is undone quickly.

I haven’t finished part 1 yet. I got as far as Mars’ nightmare and decided to take a break. I have about a half hour to go.

Want to know confusing? Well alright.

Chibiusa is Sailor Moon's daughter (aka Small Lady Serenity) who comes back in time from the 30th century to Usagi (aka Sailor Moon aka Queen Serenity). But at this time period, Usagi is still just a teenage girl who is crushing on Mamoru (aka Tuxedo Moon aka King Endymion) who is a college student. In the future, Mamoru will marry Usagi and they will have Chibiusa, but in this time period (ours presumably) Usa & Chibi vie for Mamo's affections which is a major comic arc throughout their relationship. Chibi is a preteen - Chibi literally translates as 'little'.

Sailor Moon Eternal Part 2

After Part 1 I was going to write this off as a gratuitous reboot, but Part 2 goes into deep lore. It gets crazy as all the Sailor Guardians come into play.

These films won't make a lick of sense if you don't know the franchise well. I only watched the first few series with Tara. We never finished it after she moved out. Every once in a while we might watch an episode together just to reminisce but there was bits towards the end of Part 2 that I was challenged to track. No time is spent on introducing anything so if you don't know, this is just a total mess.

Nevertheless, the animation is gorgeous. There's a few good twists on the canon. The Uranus/Neptune lesbian relationship is converted to a menage a trois with Pluto also as a parent to Saturn. That was a good opening - surprisingly out of the closet and accepting. Tuxedo Moon doesn't manifest until the end. The cats and Pegasus reveal their human incarnations. The Sailors interact with their human hosts. There's some nightmarish visions, and a lot of prismatic lens flares.

I enjoyed Part 2 and unfortunately, Part 1 needs to be slogged through for it to make sense. It went much deeper than Super S but I've never read the manga so I can't say if it was more true to that.

Sword fight! Sailor Uranus (the butch Sailor with short cropped hair who cross-dresses like a male) wields the Space Sword. That's cool.

British fashion house Jimmy Choo revealed a pair of limited-edition, fuchsia-colored boots covered in approximately 19,000 Swarovski crystals in celebration of “Sailor Moon’s” 30th anniversary.

The knee-high boots feature “Sailor Moon’s” signature crescent moon at the top of the boot and a 10-centimeter-tall heel (approximately 3.9 inches). The boots were first put on display exclusively at the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Museum in the Roppongi neighborhood of Tokyo, Japan.

The crystal boots take inspiration from the boots seen in the series when the protagonist Usagi Tsukino transforms into Sailor Moon.
The boots will cost 1,796,000 yen (approximately $13,123) and will be released in limited quantities. The creative director of Jimmy Choo, Sandra Choi, expressed excitement for the collaboration and stated that the “Sailor Moon” concept of fantasy and femininity aligns with Jimmy Choo’s vision.
The boots will be available to order from July 1 to Sep. 15, and shipping will begin in February 2023. They will also remain on display at the Sailor Moon Museum until Dec. 30.
Similarly, Vans also released a line of custom sneakers in collaboration with “Sailor Moon” for the manga’s 30th anniversary last June.
