The Movies (2019)
#1
I was very excited to learn about this documentary series on CNN by Tom Hanks and company. Who wouldn't love a documentary series that explores cinema? My ardor cooled just a tad when I realized it was just American Cinema. That could be okay. The Americans have done a fair bit of quality cinema.

I watched the first episode covering just the 1980s. Also the only episode. Let's just say my ardor has cooled almost completely. It's basically a clip show with talking heads (Not the Talking Heads, which might have been better) And it goes at a break neck speed. Each film they cover gets no more than a minute. They do bring up themes and trends in movie making but it's cursory at best. Think of it as the most basic basic primer you've ever seen about the movies. If you knew absolutely nothing about movies and I mean nothing, this might be worthwhile. Or maybe if you want to wallow in nostalgia, which granted does have some pull, it could also be good.

The only thing that sticks out was they showed some behind the scenes shots of the bar scene from 'Who framed Roger Rabbit' but that was gone in about a millisecond.

I'm curious how the other decades will play out, but I'm not holding out much hope.
As a matter of fact, my anger does keep me warm
