Caught up again. I was feeling quite smug about guessing who the Red Angel was and then the ep Red Angle happened. The S2 story arc is amusing enough in that sci-fi way and DISCO continues to keep me engaged. It’s almost too visual, and then little complex character twists emerge that boldly go, ya know? Plus kudos for constantly figuring out ways for Georgiou to get into hand-2-hand fights. Michelle is about the same age as me and is still bringing it, upstaging her 30-something cast mates in her black space cat suit. Disco Spock still ain’t working tho.

DISCO is so odd. It's bombastic in its effects and cinematography, overkill especially given how the tech is more advanced than in TOS and this is supposed to be earlier than that, but what can it do in the post Star Wars era. Every ep is packed. But every ep also seems to achieve a moment of poignancy, where no one has gone before - here it was Tig (engineer Jett) giving advice about gay relationships to Dr. Hugh (Cruz). And there's great shout outs to the original - this one where Pike sees his future was well played, and even the Jett/Hugh bit starts with a hangnail, which is a very subtle reference to the TOS Pike show. It caters to trekkies well.

Tonight’s ep tied together the short treks with the season 2 major story arc. Next week is the S2 finale and it’s set up for a major episode. I’m really looking forward to it.

The S2 finale went total Star Wars with a massive absurd space battle that barely fit on the screen. It left S2 in a weird place. Looks like we’re done with the Disco Spock creation tale (thankfully) but aslo done with Pike & the enterprise. The Discovery is now way in the future, like further than any Federation ship has gone, making S3 wide open. It was a good run. I’m still into it. Especially because Georgiou is still in it (and yes, even in a massive space battle, she gets a hand-2-hand finale fight.

Maybe I won't need to re-enroll for CBS Access after all.
Quote:The New Jean-Luc Picard Star Trek Series Is Coming to Amazon. Sorta
First up, some good news for Star Trek fans who live outside the US: Amazon has picked up the rights to the upcoming Jean-Luc Picard spinoff series currently in the works. Under an agreement with CBS, new episodes of the series will show up on Prime Video within 24 hours after they air on the CBS All Access streaming service stateside. The still-untitled new series will feature Patrick Stewart reprising his iconic role and will also feature The Newsroom's Alison Pill and Penny Dreadful's Harry Treadaway.

Well that explains the amazon prime trailer I posted on the Picard thread.
No swordfights in the disco trailer but looks like some Yeoh Fu which is just as satisfying.

Nah, it's the season break. Right now, it's just the Short Treks, these 15 min fixes that are sometimes really good and important clues to the seasonal story arcs, and sometimes just a tease. Chabon worked on some of these. The next season of Disco is waiting in the holodeck so Picard can have the conn. Unfortunately, I can't get to Short Treks without CBS Access which I don't have anymore. So no, I'm not watching. I'm on shore leave.
