It was funnier then I expected. Hardy doing the Jekyll/Hyde got a few giggles. Note that this is SUMC not the MCU so the best end credits teaser is that most contested SpiderVerse, arguably the best scene of the show. SF is spotlighted really well and my fav scene was Hardy wearing a Fillmore T. Not great but I was still entertained despite some serious flaws. I’m a sucka for an SF car chase. I’ll be curious how anyone addicted to MCU kool aid reacts. Over to you, Greg. Also curious what our only SF survivor might think - Yeti?

They filmed a lot in my old neighborhood. That is all I can tell you at this time.
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

There’s some caricature iconic stuff - scenes on the golden gate and trans America - but there’s a lot of small streets a scenes in familiar hoods and the missile launchpad in the north bay that are delightful to recognize, prolly more so for you having lived there all these years.

Back when I was working at The Booksellers I read the comic, but all I can remember is that the suit was alive.

The Netflix Gods finally did me a solid and sent me a copy.
There was no one to root for in this very narrow story. As soon as Eddie stole from his fiancee, I was done with him. And then he never redeems himself. As Venom puts it they are both losers.
There wasn't much to the story. Alien symbiotes come. They infect. They want to get more symbiotes for more infections. Fights ensue. At the lab, they are finding it really difficult to find a host. Out in the world, those symbiotes have no problem hopping form body to body. The villain was straight up villain without a lot of nuance.
I though Venom was the best thing about the film. And not so much his aesthetic but his attitude. It could have used more of that. Heads in one corner. Bodies in another.
They did use SF really well. I was quite surprised. SF hasn't really liked car chases in the city since Bullet. Lots of fights between the city and the Bullet production company. But for a change I felt like I was in the city. And I did like Eddy's Warrior T-Shirt.
Oddly, I thought the female Venom was very alluring.
So, narrow story. Dislikable lead. Poor motivation for everyone. Good use of SF. Venom could be funny.

It did well in China.
Very well.

Sequel is in the works. It was one of the top ten grossing films of the year. Along with Jurassic World.

Yep.
And you know what?
Jurassic World also did well in PRC. Very well. Feckin Chicoms are skewing our box office towards more cgi overindulgence.

I'm tempted to start a business called CGI Overindulgence and approach Hollywood looking for clients.
Unfortunately, I'd probably end up overworked.

A friend of mine who is from a mythical city in a mythical land, and does not know about MCU, etc., described the film thusly: “If you are loser in your planet, go to another planet and find another loser, and then you will together become great”.

Unfortunately, I'd probably end up overworked. Just get on with the Peruvian tales. Will there be ebene? A machete fight? DOOM wants to know....

Brilliant. Spot on.
Ya know, when we were slated for the screener, I caught Spider-Man 3 with Venom. That didn’t make a lot of sense to me, but I don’t watch comic movies for sensibility.

No ebene per se. But alcohol on the way, as a fine test for our close-knit group. And the jungle + fatigue doth fuck with the mind, as ye shall see.
