EL REY
No, no -- I just got home. Keep posting!
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

I'm going to say I did not get a credit on Last Action Hero. But I do have pictures and stories.

I've been wondering what would happen to Flying Five Finger One Armed Eight Pole Shaolin Exploding Death Touch Thursdays with Man At Arms: Art of War taking the Thursday slot. Last night was Ilya & Matt hosting Last Action Hero. Will tonight be my hosting of THE 36TH CHAMBER OF SHAOLIN? It starts in a less than an hour.

And if it is, I will only be able to watch a little of it because I have an appointment.

Can't get Sling to work on my iphone right now.   Angry

Alas.  It's the old RZA one.  False alarm.

Now I'm wondering if they will actually run it or if it went to the cutting room floor. My segment was shot last and we were all really exhausted, so I'm curious if it came out. They were trying to get me to connect it to the Ji, the weapon in the first episode, because someone mistook a Monk Spade for a Ji. I tried to make a tie using the crescent blade shape, but I'm not sure it came off. But that was just one small segment in a lot of filming, so we shall see.

Okay, I'm finally riding (side-saddle) with El Rey.
As for 36 Chambers, I now see what you're talking about.  Bummer.  But still hoping...

So.  What happens if one isn't in front of the TV when Man at Arms comes on?  Is there a window of availability, like three days or something?  I have an old TIVO, but don't think streamed content can be taped -- from what I've been reading.

It depends on your platform.  Sling usually keeps past episodes live for a while.  I'm counting on that happening with our show because I can't be in front of the TV (actually my iPhone) all the time either.

Here are the showtimes so far for EP01:
Thurs 6/8: 6PM & 8PM EST
Sun 6/11: 6PM

EP02 is Thurs 6/15.  That's the India episode - I'm not in it.  But Crystal is.  So is Kamaljit Singh, the Gatka master I was hoping to cover last Friday but he had to cancel due to an emergency with his property.  I'm still hoping to work with him - he's in Fremont.  That's also the day that Tara graduates High School, so I'll be occupied pretty much all day.  Then as early as I can, I head up to SNWMF that Friday, where my reception will be too weak to watch it.

We filmed hours of footage for Ep 1 plus there was the build in Baltimore. Eager to see what made the cut (yes, that's a pun).

I've got my El Rey lid & hoody on, my slingtv app loaded on Stacy's Mac, and I'm about to pour myself some Irish whiskey - shall it be the Connemara or the Teeling? Or the Trader Joe's?

So eager with antici...........pation.

Dang. There's a lot more of me in ep 1. Well, it is the Chinese ep.

Killed the Teelings. Connemara next.

Editing really saved my Kung Fu form. But my lav was giving me a weird side belly paunch.

How's it playing, brothers?

Nice strong showing.

So.  Did you really give Marko that warning about the wind and fire wheels before the accident, or was that recorded after the fact and then moved up front?

Before the show, I caught some of Machete 2.  I'd seen it before, but didn't know who Marko was at the time.  Son of a gun, there he was, fighting Machete time and again.  Nice sequences.

I'm glad they settled their differences so they could work together on this, alongside you.

I totally warned Marko beforehand. I even coached him on the sequence. That was quite a treat really - telling Marko how to move.  He's not a weapons guy but what a body - he's always training and super OCD about diet. Those wind fire wheels were razor. BKS makes their stuff super sharp. Crazy sharp.

I did make a joke when Marko and Danny reunited - 'Didn't you toss his intestines into a helicopter prop? I hope you've reconciled'. They were both amused. No one else in the cast but Danny and Robert knew Marko, and you know I'm a fan, so we hit it off well. But everyone was pretty easy going on the cast.  The only one I had issues with was Crystal because she kept rubbing up against me and kept talking at me. But we've reconciled as she's as much of a sitonmyfacebook slut as I am.

Just between us, the one to watch is Ilya. He's brilliant and can handle a blade and a bow expertly. He's also a self-proclaimed asshole because he knows he's a cut above everyone else. He would mutter 'penis penis' into his lav just to fuq with us and the sound guy. But I have respect for his skills and he's very well studied in historic Arms. I plan to pick his brains more in the future.

Yeah, I'm not certain anyone could have handled the Wind and Fire Wheels safely doing what he did.  When it caught in the bag, even very strong wrists were going to bend.

Lady Cranefly's question: Who gets the weapons?  (She'll take them if no else wants them)

Cranefly observation:  My guess is that your brief talk about 36 Chambers was lifted from the intro you did for the movie, which you did separately and in a different room, if I recall correctly.  You weren't shown, it was just your voice, to footage from the movie, and the acoustics were different.  Am I right?

I saw the side belly paunch and wondered if your shirt was coming untucked. But you came across really well, dood!  I loved the forging sequences. Did you get to go to any forges?

Was this one of the times you were sick? Your voice sounded a little rough in spots.

And was any of it scripted?

Well, he's entitled. Cutting the blades on the wind fire wheel just by eyeballing it was pretty amazing.  Plus he's pretty cute. Except he's got better hair than I do.

Okay, enough about my voice already. I always sound like that. Comes from too much whiskey and singing Stevie Nicks songs as a youth.

I did not go to Baltimore so I didn't see any of the forging. And it was not scripted at all - that's what makes it a reality show - but they did suggest talking points and direct me to certain research. I had to redo a sequence on my iPhone when I talked about 36 chambers. That sounds why that part sounded funny.

Yeah, Ilya is cool, but he really is an asshole and he works to be so. He's one of those people that you must impress somehow before earning any respect from him. He's also a chain smoker.

DM had so much more knowledge than the rest of the gang. Everyone else seemed to be having around waiting to thing of clever things while DM dropped knowledge.

I admit I fast forwarded through the blade making bits. They weren't the reason I was watching. Plus, it immediately occurred to me the blades had been made well before the show since DM was only down here for a week and there was no way all the weapons could have been made in that time frame.

I did not notice the mic pack but who puts the mic pack on the side? Hide it in the back, for god's sake.

Ah, that voice, those dulcet tones. I did notice a lot of the DM catch phrases as he discoursed, that I've been hearing for the last eon. It was awesome.

The set brought back lots of flashbacks from working in warehouses around Los Angeles.

My DVR is ready for the next one.

Isn't this always the case?

It's been surreal. People have been emailing/posting/texting me congrats for this, for being named Publisher, for my daughter's graduation. Meanwhile I'm scrambling to make my next deadline and stay focused on the present.

The first ep was China which put me at a distinct advantage. I'm not in the next to eps - India then Africa. I'll be back in ep 4 for Mongolia.
