Since DM has come out and reviewed kid's films, I may as well too. The low point in this is the music (by Paul Williams). Use the fast forward. The other low point is that the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come is not very scary, and is in fact a bit silly. The high point is that it includes some of Dickens' narration (done by Gonzo), which is the best part of the book IMO. It is faithful to the text, and Michael Caine is a good Scrooge.

"Light the lantern, not the rat! LIGHT THE LANTERN NOT THE RAT!!!" My favorite line from that Muppet franchise. I like the Muppets.

A Christmas Carol is one of my fav things about Xmas. Luv that tale.
A Christmas Carol @ Geary Theater 12/27/14
We splurged on a room at the St. Francis last weekend - an Xmas SF getaway. S got us booked for only a small fortune through priceline. We figured we'd get a crappy room without a view, but they gave us a 'preferred customer' room, a corner with two vast windows on the 29th floor with a view of the entire NE side from the Golden Gate to the Si valley. That room was maybe a yard shorter than our entire bungalow.
The Geary production of CC was amusing. They went for a comedic musical interpretation with lots of dancing kids. Scrooge was a ham. But it's all about the ghosts for me. Marley was too Beetlejuice. Past was awesome, swinging in from the top of stage, although her brilliant light effect was weak. Present was a wiccan woman that totally didn't work. And my other key critical point for CC, ignorance and want, was played out as street fighting punks - that didn't work either. Future was a giant dementor puppet. That was good. We had balcony front row seats. It was cheery.
Then we went back to the room to enjoy the view.

My younger brother played Scrooge in CC a few times. I saw him in one production where the ghost story was emphasized. Needless to say, he is the archetypal Scrooge.

He was in some show here in Fremont many years ago. I can't remember what it was now - perhaps it was CC. There was a pic of him in the local free paper, and I really tried to get to a performance but it just didn't work out schedule-wise. Someday perhaps.

Scrooged (1988)
This has aged well. I didn't appreciate Bill Murray for years after SNL. I used to think he was just an over acting ham, but now I get that that is his schtick and he can really nail itI must have seen this when it came out and not again since. Scrooged is a role that only Murray could play and make work. The cameos are fun nostalgia and the ghosts are all spot on. One of the few decent roles for Bobcat and the only other role Karen Allen did that I remember beyond Indy, plus a young Wendie Malick, and so much more. When Bill awakens in the sewer and says 'Where am I? Trump tower?' it was prophetic.
Best of the season to you DOOM brothers! And god bless us every one.
