The Dark Knight Rises

why, yes, you should go see this. We can talk later. Had to see it on a regular screen because all the IMAX showings were sold out.
So much for the flickr badge idea. Dammit

During the early part of this flick, my enjoyment of comic book flicks was renewed. After all, this has a great cast. And Anne as Catwoman? Well, that's got me at 'hello'. I can't think of a catwoman that hasn't amused, save for the film Catwoman, which I still haven't seen. I've followed her career since Ella Enchanted and Princess Diaries, watched her grow into that freakishly absurd face of hers that like Julia Roberts, somehow works. Then, when it got to the nuclear occupy part, it just got too absurd for me and found myself once again, done with comic book flicks. It almost rallied with Marion's twist, as I'm a great fan of hers too, but it still didn't redeem it for me. Still done with comic book flicks. It's way down there, right next to beach volleyball.

Instead of the bat cycle and the bat aircraft, I would have enjoyed this more if there was a bat sword.

I had a problem with Bane's mask. It seemed difficult for the actor to express himself with half of his face covered. He reminded me of Darth Vader and Lord Humongus from Mad Max II.

Darth Vader had some of the same issues, especially with the voice being added in later by a different actor. Lots of hand gestures and nodding.

Lord Humongus worked a little better because he wasn't a main character and didn't have to carry the film.

There was so much story to tie together, and a lot of that was story arc from the first movie. Now I did watch the second movie a few weeks ago as a refresher for this, but I barely remember the first one, so it was difficult to remember who was who and why they had this motivation or that.

I was entertained for a few hours, but it struck me that the second movie was sort of an odd duck in this story arc and yet I think it was the best of them all, and a great movie that stands on its own.

I had the same feeling as DM except the absurdity pretty much hit me right at the beginning with the poorly edited airplane sequence. Bungee-cording hijackers with bags of blood and blowtorches and hooded guys who may or may not be kidnapped...

Seriously, I understand the 'suspension of belief' thing but when you have a guy recover from a broken back by having his vertebrae punched back into place and hung from a rope, or show hundreds of men emerge from a tunnel after being trapped underground for 3 months without a hint of stubble, or have wall street taken down by some laptop program that needs a certain fingerprint to work, nuclear devices that aren't bombs but have timers running on them anyway.

No comic book would even try to shove crap like that down a readers throat.

At least Batman could have been in it for more than 20 minutes. Instead we get lots of Christian Bale moping around and incomprehensible exposition by secondary characters.

Catwoman is cool, but Catwoman is always cool. Even the Catwoman movie is cool if you turn the sound off and put on Daft Punk cd.

Anyway - OK for an iMAX movie (good sound editing), but not my idea of Batman.

Good tip. I'll keep that in mind.
