Went with my son this afternoon. I really enjoyed it. The CG was really good. I was worried that making realistic figures from cartoon caricatures wouldn't work, but it did pretty well. Only a few 3-D let's poke things at the audience 8) . For the most part, the 3-D was successful. They kept to the original story as best as I can remember. There's lots of action. Things blow up. Sword fights and even a *SPOILER* crane fight! *SPOILER* . There was one chase scene with a cycle and sidecar that I think jumped the shark a bit. It reminded me of a similar scene in Indiana Jones 4. It's ok if you can suspend belief, but if you remember that your watching a live-action(ish) version of a comic book character, than you've already done that...
I'd recommend it, especially if you've read the books.

The animation was really solid - I kept checking myself with the realization that it was all animated. The story was a bit silly and inconsistent - very absurd. It could have been much funnier for Spielberg, although it was overall, very Speilberg, right down to the flashlight beams. I could have gone for much more 3d-poke-in-your-face shots, especially with the sword fight. The climatic fight at the end was very amusing. It was all about the dog.
I haven't read the books. I was entertained, but not overly impressed. It needed a giant boulder to chase Tintin down a tunnel or something. T & mom were only mildly amused. Dad just shrugged.
I liked the preview for the Hobbit.

Saw it on the TV which might have lessened it's impact. I thought it was fine. With Spielberg and Jackson at the helm, I expected to be wowed more. The story seemed to be broken down into panels. You would do three beats to get to the reveal. Then you would do another three beats.
So much for the flickr badge idea. Dammit
