So, a friend of a friend is getting married at the Dreams resort in Cancun. Originally my friend and his wife were going to go but his wife has to work. So I'm going instead.
Apparently the Dreams resort provides all meals and has 24-hour open bars everywhere.
So I ask you, DOOM brothers, is there any reason to stray beyond the walls of the resort and explore the area around Cancun? I don't want to get shot or kidnapped.

I'd have to say leave the resort and find the cool ruins.
So much for the flickr badge idea. Dammit

Go south and visit Coba, Xcaret, and/or Tulume (the latter two being very touristy)...
You have to swim in one of the cenotes... There's a nice one on the road to Coba, but you can find some anywhere on the Yucatan. That peninsula is a sponge.

Just for closure.
I was actually in Tulum (about 50 miles NE of Cancun).
It rained quite a bit so we just stayed at the Dreams resort and drank. There was some kayaking, snorkeling, swimming etc., but mostly seeing how many free Pina Colada's you could drink every hour (until you got sick of them and switched to Scotch).
A perfect vacation.
