Searching for Comedy in the Muslim World
#1
It had some funny lines, but not enough. Most of it was just typically unfunny Albert Brooks whining. The few funny moments really aren't worth the time or the price of admission. Mostly it was just awkward. The overheard telephone conversations of outsourced tech support were very amusing, and the scene where the Al Jazeera network execs meet with Brooks to try to hire him for a sitcom called "That Darned Jew," was pretty good. :?
Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you criticize them, you're a mile away and you have their shoes.

Such as, "Let's see if Albert Brooks is funny?" The answer is no. Sorry, Mr Ebert, I guess I'm not hip enough to get Mr. Brook's deconstructionist comedy.
How about "Mr. Brooks goes in search of a Plot" Maybe he had the title and then needed something to go with it, Like a film or something. It was nice to get a glimpse of India. You don't see a lot of images of India and western cinema and by cracky, there it was. Maybe I should just get a travelogue DVD of the country that way I don't have to subject myself to Mr. Brooks.
Better yet "Funny Outsourcing Calls" Him walking past the Technical Support Outsourcing room did make me laugh. We could have stayed there for two hours. Then again, by the third time through, I got the joke and was hoping he'd find something else funny. I hoped in vain.
And as a logic note, since when does the government not fund a study. That's the whole idea of a study is to get government funding. Since one of the running gags in the film was they had no money, it didn't come across as funny. Only that odd moment when I asked myself why didn't they have money?
So much for the flickr badge idea. Dammit

But make sure you wait a couple of months before your feelings get hurt and you go on a rampage.
