I saw DM in a CNY fest at Golden Buddha in Soquel. I can't remember which end of the dragon he was...
That reverse parade idea, I think that's sort of what the Santa Cruz Wharf to Wharf is about. You run or walk 6 miles and pass performers along the way. It sounds better than it actually is. If you're running, you pass by bands in a few seconds...kind of a doppler shift effect. You don't really get to hear whole songs, but given the caliber of a lot of said bands, it's really nothing to miss.
Aptos has the annual "Shortest Parade in the World" every Fourth of July. People line the streets to watch, but I think pretty much anyone can be in the parade. The parade runs about 2 blocks and ends right by Britannia Arms, near Nisene Marks park. At least it's short and look, klingons:
