DOOM Cameos (Greg can't play)
#1
I was thinking about that Napoleon Dynamite thread where some one mistook cranefly for Napoleon (absurd). Then I starting thinking about Greg's foot in Tremors, was it? Or was it his ass? Foot, ass, it's Greg, what's the difference? Anyway, I thought I'd start this thread.

King Bob: Batman. KB appears as the first dude to get gassed by the Joker on the street. He presses his maniacal grin up against the windsheild.

El Dingo: Running Man. ED appears as the first dude to die in Arnie's group. He gets shocked by this electrical dude while trying to jack into a computer system, no doubt to pirate the latest Miike film.

Dr. Ivor Yeti: DIY is the doppleganger of Weird Al Yankovic. One can fence. The other can play accordian with his leg over his neck. We still aren't clear which is the evil twin. We suspect that they are both examples of a new mutation species.

Research on Doom cameos continues...stay tuned.

Tremors: Kevin Bacon's Shoulder, Fred Ward's Torso, and Michael Gross Foot.

Child's Play 2: I was the driver of my car, the Toyota 4runner. I did get a seventy dollar bump, thank you very much.

My torso and chin were in Seinfeld, second-to-last episode of the second season. I was sitting a couple of rows behind and just above the NBC studio execs in the audience for the taping of the "Jerry" show. I was told by a friend that I was also in a reaction shot for a comedy club sequence in the Junior Mint episode, but I've never seen it. I remember filming it (they loved using people that came to the taping as unpaid extras), but I thought I wound up on the cutting room floor.

I think my sole cameo was laughing uncontrollably in the audience of a Bob Goldthwaite special. It was at the Great American Music Hall many years ago. After it came out on VHS coworkers would rush up to me and say 'Dude! I saw you on TV!'

I'm most proud of appearing 2 years in a row on Creature Features with Bob Wilkins. I worked at a costume shop and some of us would go up in costume to stand around Bob at Halloween.

I'm sure all of those tapes are long gone...

In July of 1984, I met Cab Calloway. By sheer luck and coincidence, I was at Disneyland on the day he was there to play at the Carnation Plaza bandstand. His first two sets were taped for a Disney Channel presentation, Big Bands at Disneyland. It came out on VHS, too. I'm right up front in my pink shirt with my ex-wife. I spoke to Cab between sets, and asked if he wouldn't mind playing "St. James Infirmary Blues," as it was one of my favorites. I told him how I knew the tune, from the Max Fleischer Betty Boop Snow White cartoon. He got a faraway look in his eye - and I know that may sound trite, but if you'd seen him at that moment, you'd know that it's the only viable description - and said, "Man, I haven't done one of those in years." Yeah, Cab, I'm thinking. Like about 50 years, daddy-o. Anyway, after the video crowd packed up after set number two, he played two more sets. About half way through the fourth and final set, he looks down and sees me sitting there, front and center, not going nowhere. He turns around and says something to the band. They all dig around into the back pages of their sheet music, looking at each other, smiling, surprised. They settle in. And Bang! That first bar from "St. James Infirmary Blues" kicks out and Cab starts in with a couple dance steps, one hand on his belly, the other up in the air, head down, does a quick spin on one toe and tears into "Folks, I'm going down to St. James infirm'ry...." and I just fall apart. Man, they just killed me, it was so good. And the band ripped it up. They had a blast with that song and Cab had a grin that made him look 50 years younger. Sorry, video crew. You missed the high spot that night.

Real cameos, yes, well, that wasn't my intention with this thread, but I'm happy to go there.

The only one that comes immediately to mind which may be preserved for posterirty was my posterior on the VH1 documentary that was done on Rock Med a few years ago. You can see my butt as they panned across the room for a shot in one of the episodes.

Call the thread finding your doppleganger in the movies. And why can't I play if it's about finding dopplegangers? Your is qi is gushing from your head, man, gushing.

But you're right. This thread was slightly mistitled. I figured my first post would set the tone, but who bothers to read the previous post? That takes all the adventure out of it. I suppose, now that we've all got our cameos out of our systems, we can start looking for DOOM dopplegangers.

Greg, you still can't play.

So far as I know, I'm completely unique in all the world.

I'm not sure if Gene has a doppleganger in the movies, but the Iron Chef guy is a dead ringer for him. I've seen the same clever/possibly malicious grin on Gene that he does at the beginning of each episode. And the hair... Keep it in mind for Halloween, Gene.

Gene was the gun-wielding main villain.
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.
