It's been years since I dropped in on the SLA season closer. T & DM made a cameo because T needed to do some volunteer work for her next GS badge and likes No Doubt. She replaced gatorade cups at the front desk. Ironically, she was recognized by someone in the crowd almost immediately as a client of Peggy-O's. DM&T used the ol GD crew strategy "last in, first out" and it worked like a charm.
DM&T caught a bit of Adam Sandler. "He was in Bedtime Stories" observed T. Sandler opened with the Doors Break on Through, but exited when he began singing about his 7 ft wide penis. Caught a bit of the Hanukkah song at the end of his set.
After replacing some cups, DM&T scored some seats in the 200 section and saw two whole sets over some stale kettle corn.
Chris Martin from Coldplay was mediocre. He messed up completely a few times, having to start again, just not used to playing solo acoustic (he had a violinist accompany him for the latter part of his set). There was some rabid Coldplay fans seated nearby that shrieked at painful volumes and had to sing along. T said what he was playing was relatively easy "just triads, chords and arpeggios..."
No Doubt opened with an awesome reggae version of Bathwater and then, keeping that reggae vibe, went into Underneath it All. Then it was hits - Just a Girl, Simple Kind of Life (adding a string quartet), Magic’s in the Makeup, Don’t Speak, It’s My Life. Gwen was resplendent in foot high stiletto heels and a bump-it for her platinum blond tresses. Of course, with that strong reggae opening, she had dm at 'hello'. T was impressed too, especially with Gwen's back bending skanking steps, commenting that Bathwater was her fav tune. Gwen sang more to the Bridge kids than the audience, which was the classy way to do Bridge. Of what little we saw, she stole the show.
We cut out immediately after, so we missed Neil
