This just in about Gina Carano's career path.

"Indie Wire Wrote:Gina Carano’s New Ben Shapiro-Produced Movie Is Somehow Still Too Woke for Some Right-Wingers

One of the biggest box office failures of 2022 was “Terror on the Prairie,” the Ben Shapiro-produced Western starring Gina Carano. It marked Carano’s first major role since being fired from “The Mandalorian” over a series of social media posts that many viewed as antisemitic. The film only grossed $804 during its one-day theatrical run despite any star power that the actress might have on the political right.

The film was intended to be part of The Daily Wire’s stated strategy of making films that entertain audiences without what they see as overt messaging, but without being explicitly conservative either.

“We’re making entertainment-first content, challenging content, adult content,” Daily Wire co-founder and -CEO Jeremy Boreing said of the company’s film strategy in a recent interview with IndieWire.” The two things that will distinguish [a Daily Wire film] is the fact that it broadly speaks to values that conservatives are aligned on — not strictly conservative values. We’re not making Hillary’s hard-drive story, and we’re not making rag-tag football players find Jesus in the third act.”
But while “Terror on the Prairie” represented the right-wing media outlet’s most serious attempt at mainstream filmmaking to date, it failed to resonate with its target audience. A new story in The A.V. Club revealed that there are still some fringe online personalities who thought the film was too “woke.” Many of them took to Twitter and IMDb comment sections to complain about the film’s male characters acting insufficiently masculine while allowing Carano’s heroine to save the day.

For her part, Carano denies that she made any bad decisions from either a moral or financial standpoint. In a recent Twitter thread, she stood by the actions that led to her cancellation and blamed groupthink among journalists for her downfall.
“I didn’t fumble the bag I just didn’t go along with the sell out narrative, the online mob couldn’t handle that so they petitioned to have me fired & won. I’m not sorry for that. I stood for what I believe the right thing to do was & the more time that goes by the better I feel,” she wrote. “The genuine bag fumble is sell out journalists like you who sold out America and stopped asking questions to be liked by a fickle manipulated mob. That is what you valued and that will be your legacy.”

Yeah, been tracking this over on KFM https://www.kungfumagazine.com/forum/sho...ost1324169

I cancelled Gina after reading her political rants. But now I kinda want to see Terror on the Prairie just because it sounds like such a trainwreck.

This seemed like the best place to put this: USPS releases Year of the Rabbit stamp

They debuted it at the Asian Art Museum in SF. I used this article rather than the official press release because the image of the stamp was better.

Been tracking that too. https://www.kungfumagazine.com/forum/sho...ost1324133

I was in Chinatown by chance when they did one of the early Lunar New Year releases. It was quite event. I bought a commemorative package, which is stored somewhere in all my trash at my mom's.

I also have a gold edition of commemorative Lunar New Year stamps from Asia. It's one of those white elephant gifts. We got a few in for MAS but they never sold so they gave me one. I was happy about it at the time but now it's just something that adds to the clutter. I think it's Year of the Dragon so maybe I'll try to sell it next year...

Have you found all the SF bunnies yet? (hint - one is in front of the Asian Art Museum) https://sfstandard.com/community/find-th...lebration/

We'll need stamps soon, so I'll get some of them. It's my year after all. Mine was a water year. I don't know what element this year is.

It's water. Congrats! You have completed the Cycle of Sixty. 12 zodiac signs X five elements = 60.

Here's a fantastic article that explains some of this: https://ymaa.com/articles/2023/01/2023-year-rabbit

Stay tuned, more to come.

Unfortunately, the zodiac year that you are born under is generally NOT lucky for you. Kung Fu Horoscopes coming soon...

That's a nice article. And I guess I never really paid attention before, but how old is your profile picture on that?

Ha. Old. Maybe a decade old. Maybe a decade and a half. I think it's a selfie I did at the request of some tournament that needed a headshot for the program or something like that.

One of my elementary school teachers told us the story of the rabbit in the moon and I never forgot it. It might have been my first grade teacher; she was Hawaiian/Japanese. She told it with the rabbit jumping into a boiling cauldron. And she left out everything about the elixir, so it was just a social call I guess. I remember that I felt so bad for the rabbit being ashamed. Oddly, writing that last sentence made me feel teary eyed for a minute.

I can always see the rabbit, but not the man in the moon.

Shame bunnies resonate with you, do they? We're getting to be old softies...

There are variations of that tale. I selected the one that would fit my article best.

The Lunar New Year, often called Chinese New Year even though it's celebrated in many Asian cultures, is Sunday. Or is it? While the lunar calendar synced with the Gregorian calendar begins on January 22 this year, some cultures in Mongolia and Tibet follow a different calendar, which puts the New Year on February 20th. If that's not confusing enough, the zodiac animal associated with the year varies this year. The twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac are universal every year except when the fourth animal comes around. In China and most countries, this will be the year of the rabbit. But in Vietnam, Tết will usher in the year of the cat. Al Stewart would be proud.

The reason why the two zodiacs differ is not quite clear. One theory is that the zodiac term for the year in Chinese sounds like the Vietnamese word for cat. Another theory has to do with the differing stories of how all the animals raced across a river to decide who would be represented in the zodiac. You can read those stories and find out more about the Lunar New Year celebrations at the Conversation. Now if we could just figure out how the mousedeer came to represent this year in the Malay zodiac, we'd know a lot more.
