The Brass Man by Neal Asher
Ian McCormac's battles with Skellor continue, this time on the planet of Cull. Cull is also were the third part of the Dragon entity exists. Old familiar characters like Thorn and Mika appear. We meet some new AIs. There are battles. Jain technology continues to be a problem and must be destroyed. And there is the Brass Man. He is a robot that has the programming of a serial killer embedded in him. I think Asher's books need to be shorter. There is just way too much going on in each story and I would like there to be a little less. Two books left in the Ian McCormac arc.

The Witch King by Martha Wells
Martha Wells, of Murderbot fame, returns to her fantasy roots in this tale of a the demon, Kai, living in a human body amidst the Heirarchs battles. The names for all the different countries and peoples are long and confusing. But Kai is brought to the land in a human form and lives long enough to see the rise and fall of a terrible foe, the Heirarchs. The book travels along two timelines. One where Kai lives among the Heirarchs and battles them. The second timeline concerns the fighting over the world left in the Heirarchs fall. There is a big mystery at the center of the book that the solution is given short shrift at the end. Basically, Kai says you did this to a historian and the historian says I did. And they move on. It's not very satisfying. The battles against the Heirarchs are good and the world building is good. But a lot seems to be missing. Although not specifically stated, this book looks to be the start of something rather than a stand alone. I didn't feel involved enough to read anymore of the stories but the tale seems unfinished.

Polity Agent by Neil Asher
More Polity shenanigans. As the series progresses, the main focus of the books, in this case, Ian McCormac, plays less and less of a role in the books. In this edition AI ships are on the hunt for rogue AI ships. Big space battles. Humans sort of an afterthought. Jain technology continues to be the big problem they fight against. This time a young woman has found it and she succumbs to the lure of the unbridled power.

A Second Chance by Jodi Taylor
More fun with the time travelers at St. Mary's. This time Max and company go on last big adventure before Max and Leon head off to somewhere a little less dangerous. They travel to Troy to watch the fall of Troy. Later we head to Agincourt to watch that big battle. Nothing ever goes right.

No Time Like the Past by Jodi Taylor
I think Ms. Taylor painted herself into a corner in the last book so she did what any good writer does she just had the main character switch to a timeline more conducive to the story you want to tell. That is my explanation for what happens. This time the St. Mary's group travels to St. Peters during the fire and Florence in the Renaissance and Greece for the battle of the Thermopylae. Naturally, our heroine takes in a lot of punishment but keeps on ticking.
