I took my Shaolin monk master to the Rosicrucian a few years ago. That was the last time I went and I was struck by how much it was the same as I remembered it back when I went in ... high school? Dang, I don't know. I visited it with in the last 20 years because we went there as part of KFTC. There was discussion of them advertising with us. However, we didn't see the collection. We went to a back office, which was pretty cool, and they offered us passes but I was with Gigi and she wasn't into it. When I went with my master, we had a blast. He was really into the building models for some reason. One of his students was with us and she had this translator app on her phone where she could view all the display descriptions and get them instantly translated to Chinese. That was impressive and made it more fun.
I don't know which museum I'll hit first. Something in SF maybe. Anything. Don't forget. We have a DOOM date here: https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/bigf...ery-museum BACK ON TOPIC - we finished Mystery in Paris tonight - e7 was the Elysee Palace. An assassination plot. Another strong woman who life is changed, but in a switch, she's more mature, the mother of a son who serves in the palace. We didn't visit that palace, but the story had a decent mcguffin and we failed to predict the ending. The palace looked beautiful.

Emma - another Parisian police procedural with a twist available on that Euro niche of PBS Masterpiece 'Walter Presents'.
A detective gets a new intern. She's smokin hawt, but...she's an android. It's like Star Trek's Seven of Nine/T'Pol play meets a detective drama set in modern Paris. Sadly, there only seems to be two episodes so I'll finish it. Walter says it's 2020 but IMDb says 2016. No sword fights. Not DOOM recommended.

Miss Scarlet and the Duke e2 - still okay in a cute sort of way. It struggles to be female empowering without pandering. I predicted what would happen with the JA character, who looks like Denzel. The Duke looks like Jackman. Too much indoors tho - needs better backdrops.
All Creatures Great and Small e3 - still very comforting. Forgot to mention last time that it has an HP factor - Neville! The countryside looks so verdant and lovely. Emma e2 (finale) - I would've watched more if they made more. What can I say? I'm a sucker for Seven of Nine/T'pol/Emma. Fembots rock.

Maltese e2 (we're back http://www.brotherhoodofdoom.com/doomFor...6#pid44406) Still liking the look of this show. It really feels like I imagine Sicily of the 70s might have been like. The locations have such color, and the show has a style that's working for me.

Maltese ep 3 & 4. Still enjoying this. It's got such great locations and style. It really feels like I'd imagine Sicily of the 70s might have been like. There's also this emphasis on parents disappointed with their children who have fallen into despair. I also like that people look like average Sicilians. Only a few women are star-gorgeous...them and the lead detective. But everyone else looks like...well like mafia...which is cool because even the cops look that way so you can't tell the bad guys without following the story.
Stacy is continually questioning it just before the reveal. Like right before. It's uncanny.

Binged the last 4 eps of Maltese. We were only going to watch two but got engaged, plus it was a rain day so what else was there to do? It was very satisfying. I solved the mystery of the key witness. Stacy solved the ultimate villain. We'd make a great detective team - massage therapist and martial arts writer.
Ep 6 & 7 got very mafia with the hits and the dead animal threats. But overall, it was the settings and the style that won us over. Nice storytelling, evenly paced, with decently fleshed out characters. And clues from the beginning came into play throughout, just like a decent mystery series should. DOOM recommended.

The Woman in White
We got two eps in last night. It's based on a novel from 1859 considered to be one of the first in the mystery genre. This BBC version has been engaging so far - nice period costumes and settings. The Cumberland manor is ornate, but I keep thinking of the Cumberland Blues. One of the lead actresses was in Roadkill. She has a duel role as a woman forced into marriage and an escapee from an insane asylum. Apparently this story has been depicted many times but we're unfamiliar with it. It has a gothic horror feel so far. Only 5 eps so we'll see it through. But today is Sunday so there's fresh eps of All Creatures & Miss Scarlet, plus a new one about JA slaves.

Wilkie Collins was the author. He and Chuck Dickens were pals.
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

I was trying to think of the mystery novel with Wilkie Collins as the central character that came out a few years ago. It name checked the Women in white.

I remember watching The Moonstone I think on PBS years ago - is that an re-run?
I've been meaning to read it, or The Moonstone, but can't find a copy of either. One will turn up eventually.

The PBS Moonstone was 2016. Looks like Stacy already watched that. Maybe I did too but I didn't make a note of it here on DOOM so I don't remember.
Didn't realize it was the same author. Stacy probably did. When DOOM goes offline, it's like a massive cerebral occlusion for my memory.

I wrote that wrong - I meant to say that I saw The Woman in White. Checking IMDB, there was a BBC movie of it in 1997. I think I saw that.

All Creatures & Miss Scarlet were almost completely predictable tonight. Cutesy Masterpiece comfort food. We splurged on some Betty's burgers take-out even.
Saving The Long Song for later.
