The 2020 Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival will not take place this August, festival organizers announced Wednesday.
The long-awaited decision to cancel, they noted, was a difficult choice made after "close talks" with city and state health officials.
"Outside Lands was created to celebrate the Bay Area creative community and the small businesses that are the fabric of San Francisco's culture," said Superfly co-founder and festival co-producer Rick Farman in a statement. "Given everything that our community is going through, we will continue that mission with a renewed focus as we plan for the 2021 event."

In April, California Governor Gavin Newsom announced that mass gatherings, such as sports games and music festivals, were not likely to happen in California this summer, calling the prospect of such events "negligible at best."
"Large-scale events that bring in hundreds, thousands, tens of thousands of strangers all together across every conceivable difference, health and otherwise, is not in the cards based on our expectations," Newsom said.
Notable cancellations followed, including the 50th annual Pride event in San Francisco, and Southern California music festivals Coachella and Stagecoach. At the time, Outside Lands, which has previously drawn upwards of 90,000 people per day, held off on canceling, sticking to an earlier announcement that organizers were "working closely with local officials to ensure that if Outside Lands happens, it will happen in the safest environment possible."
Wednesday’s announcement officially squashes any hope that the event might take place as planned. But as a means to look forward, Outside Lands offered the full lineup for 2021, and is offering early ticket sales for next year’s fest. (See the full lineup below.)
Another Planet, Superfly and Starr Hill Presents announced next year’s event, due to take place August 6-8, 2021 in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, will be headlined by singer-rapper Lizzo, Australian psych-pop act Tame Impala, New York rock band the Strokes and L.A. rapper and producer Tyler the Creator.
Three-day passes go on sale on the Outside Lands website on Thursday, June 25 at 10 a.m. Those include General Admission and VIP (priced at three different tiers between $375-$395, and $815-$855, respectively) and the ultra-luxe Golden Gate ticket package. Also included is a payment plan 3-day pass, which starts at $99 upfront. Those who already purchased Eager Beaver tickets for the 2020 event may use those tickets for the 2021 festival or receive a full refund.
“We are thrilled for the festival to be coming back in 2021. There’s been a lot of bad news out there with regard to COVID-19 and we want to give people something to look forward to,” said Allen Scott, Head of Concerts & Festivals at Another Planet Entertainment and Co-Producer of Outside Lands. “We’re hopeful that in sharing our excitement about the future of the festival and next year’s lineup, that it provides some much-needed positivity for our fans and community.”

Until next year...

Last ones in the game for 2020 - Cali Roots & Dry Diggings. I'm skeptical.

Kind of hard to have festivals when you are setting records every day for new cases of the Corona.

Nelly is playing?

This would've been last weekend too. They did some online thing - Inside Lands - but I didn't tune in. However, this week, my 'memories' are popping up on sitonmyfacebook.

I enjoyed this Festival a lot but it was always a pain in the ass to get up there, park, pick up my wristband, walk all day, then drive home. I was often burnt out from RotR.

Quote:Outside Lands reveals summer dates, opens ticket sales

  News
It's a sign life really may return to normal in San Francisco this summer.
The Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival is scheduled to take place this summer, Aug. 6 to 8, 2021, in Golden Gate Park, according to the festival's website.
Although no announcement had been made on the festival's social media channels as of publication, Outside Lands' website listed 2021 dates Tuesday, launching ticket sales and touting a lineup that was released in spring of 2020.
Headliners include Tame Impala, Lizzo, The Strokes, Tyler the Creator, Vampire Weekend, J Balvin, Rufus Du Sol, Kehlani, Zhu and Young Thug.
Among the smaller acts you'll find Beach House, Nelly, Boy Pablo, Dr. Dog, Burna Boy, Resistance Revival Chorus, The Soul Rebels and Brittany Howard.
General admission tickets for a three-day pass cost $395 (plus a $42.95 fee). VIP tickets are going for $835 to $855 (plus $62.95 fee) and get you access to exclusive lounges, surprise performances, upgraded restrooms, dedicated entrances and special viewing areas, according to the website. Prices will go up closer to the festival dates. Refunds are available if Outside Lands is rescheduled or canceled.
Single-day tickets aren't available yet.
The festival was canceled in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic. When organizers made the announcement last June, they also released the 2021 lineup but there was speculation around whether it would happen.

You might like Khruangbin. Sort of a jam band / world music thing. And Bonobo is a bit like Thievery Corporation, but maybe a little jazzier and less dubby.

Not that it matters if you are working the show, DM, but all the tickets are gone.

Quote:In one of the clearest signs that people are looking forward to life after the coronavirus pandemic, tickets for San Francisco’s Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival sold out in less than two hours on Thursday, April 29, despite widespread reports of technical issues from people trying to access the festival’s ticketing system.
Outside Lands is planning to return to Golden Gate Park from Oct. 29 to 31, after a yearlong absence and postponement from its usual late-summer run.
The tickets, priced from $165 for general admission to $375 for VIP access, were available to purchase starting at 10 a.m. Thursday exclusively on the festival website using Front Gate Tickets. By noon, promoters Another Planet Entertainment and Superfly announced that they were completely sold out.

I might do all three days. I've usually been only hitting one, but if it all works out, Tara will have an apt in SF and I can crash there in between. She wants to work it too and I mentioned this to the RM director, and he's totally down.

Gotta keep moving. Coyotes and raccoons are beginning to conspire. Moving to higher ground. Away from park, back into the city proper. California St between Broderick and Baker. Victorian cottage behind a Victorian house.

Solo! Dr. J has already found a forever home 1 BR apartment in the inner Richmond. We discussed and had come to same conclusion that solo living was best course for the next several years.
