Oh my god. Why didn't someone recommend you go to Venice? Because you should definitely go to Venice.
VENICE!

Today = Musee D’orsay, orangerie, armee + champ elysee & Eiffel - sorry if my spelling is off. Or better said - pardon my French.
Leg is cramping from all the walking, eyes a exhausted from all the art & architecture, mind blown by the arms & armor collection (best Ive ever seen - epeegasmic). Rained today. We were also attacked by a rat in the bakery the won the best croissant for 2018. Everyone had been exceedingly nice but I’m guessing it’s my daughter (strangers walk up to her and tell her how beautiful she is at sfo). The Chinese tourists might just be worse than the Americans now. I got my cheese legs now. Bring it France - fromage me. Do your worst. I am not afriad. Too late on the baguettes, but I appreciate the warning Greg. Tomorrow louvre It’s impossoble not to fall in love with Paris.

I'm still a sucker for the Rodin museum which is near Les Invalides, burial place of Napolean.
And by the by, save your legs, take the Subway. Same goes for Rome. No subway in Venice.

Invalids = armee
Actually prefer to walk - better visuals. So much sculpture & architecture here. But again, I appreciate the warning.

I vote for walking when in Rome.
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

The Louvre kicked my ass. What an insane museum. Too much great stuff. Tara proved to be an excellent guide because she was in an art course last year, so she was a fine tour guide when I was able to keep up with her teenage legs. The exit to through the mall was hella harsh. I was so beat that we splurged on a cab to get to la creperia where I indulged in my first parisian crepe (not bad) and french fries (kinda the same as ours - even came with heinz 57)
We have moved hotels. Our first one was very quaint and traditional with an old skool key. New one is a Best Western - we're on the top floor and the ceilings are curved from the roof, plus the elevator runs through the middle of the room, but it has a view of Notre Dame. And the wifi is better. Yesterday's rain has given way to sunny with clouds. It's pleasant weather, especially since last week was a massive global warming heatwave across Spain & France. Parisians have been super nice to us. Y'all got that wrong. Maybe they just understand how to deal with tourists here in the tourist zone (we're in the Latin quarter). Y'all were right about one thing tho - it's super expensive. We're trying to just eat one decent meal per day, and get by on market snacks for the rest of the day. Baguettes and cheese are affordable.

Street Food. The best meal I had in Paris was a ham and cheese crepe made at one of these little stands on the sidewalk. I think it was 2 bucks. (I know 'HAM'). Have you seen the Baguette vending machines?
The Pommes Frites taste like regular french fries! What the hell has happened? Parisian French Fries were the bomb. Although to be fair, the proper ones are double fried in kidney fat (KIDNEY FAT!) Good luck. Keep us posted.

Have you seen the Baguette vending machines? Can't validate the ham but the street food is pretty satisfying and more affordable for sure. Did I mention the rat attack though? Yes, I did above. Yesterday we were ordering pain au chocolate at this award winning stand and a rat literally runs out, jumps on Tara's shoe, and both T & S jump and scream (S had sandals). Maybe it was a mouse. Maybe a friend of Joe. But those were damn good pastries. We went back for more today. (08-10-2018, 08:46 AM)Greg Wrote: The Pommes Frites taste like regular french fries! What the hell has happened? When Stacy was here 40 years ago, her host family didn't know what hamburgers were. So she tried to make some for them. Now there's hamburgers everywhere. McDs, 5 Guys, even saw a place called Burgasm. I blame Stacy. And the fries are just fries. Maybe there's traditional pommes frites somewhere. Not where we are. Note that Stacy who has a severe gluten allergy can eat small amounts of wheat grains in Europe. She's two pastries (an eclair didn't go as well). They say it's the old grains, not our GMO US stuff. Nevertheless, there's much more gluten awareness here. The cheese has been awesome though.

Had a flash back to my 1984 trip to Paris. I went to a restaurant that served wine baby bottles. It felt like a tourist trap that would long since be closed. But no. It's a Paris tradition. It's locate in Montmatre. It gets good reviews. They only serve fondue and wine.
https://theculturetrip.com/europe/france...estaurant/ They had McD's in Paris in 1980 when I went. As a seventeen year old Merican, it was the only place for me to eat.

Found antique swords for sale right across the seine from notre dame in a tiny military memorabilia shop. It mostly had medals and miniature figurines, but also about a dozen swords, mostly military but two sweet court swords and an interesting swept hilt.
Then had crepes at a Star Wars themed creperia chatting world politics with two local photographers at the gay games happening this week here. Quite a nice Friday night. Also my itinerary is packed so no Venice. My family might go. They have two additional weeks.

Note: I'm just passing this along, not being any kind of authority. In fact, I've never even been to Europe.
But I saw this in the news a couple days ago. Apparently some cafes charge a whole lot extra for their scenic settings. Quote:Outrage after Venice café charges tourist €43 for two coffees and waterMaybe the scenery is worth it. Who knows. But just a heads up. P.S. Apply the Centigrade-to-Fahrenheit conversion formula to the €43 to get the US dollar amount.
I'm nobody's pony.
