No one. No one said that.
But D00M sourcing to find out if you should post a potato pic is a bit much to ask of us here. Can't we just jump on cinematic grenades of dumb instead?
Both Jingles and Yuki had/have majestic ass feathers that need to be trimmed regularly lest they become a Klingon congregation zone.

Since Poodles and Schnauzers don't shed, Hazel needed regular haircuts, so thankfully that was rarely an issue.

If I can't share dog poop stories here, where else can I share them. I thought this was a safe space?
Tragically, Maeve was just given a thorough butt cleansing and trim on Saturday. That's why the poop potato was so surprising.
Yes, I'm going to add Poop Potato to the band list.

Still off topic - our neighbor Luigi lost his other dog on Wednesday. Joey was Notchy’s buddy, a sweet old setter lab. Joey had been looking rough for the last year: awkward gait, mussed up fur, huge tumor on his hip. He was always happy to see Yuki and greeted him with sniffs and a wagging tail. Luigi raised both dogs from puppies - both were in their mid teens. He’s a mess. We may gift him some massage therapy and a hot tub at the well. Don’t really know what else to do.
Stacy noticed Yuki behaving oddly in the yard, looking around knowing something was amiss. She thinks they last saw each other on Tuesday. Now Yuki is the sole dog on our lot. Squirtl, the junkyard rescue cat still lives with our other neighbors, but no more dogs.

Poor Yuki.
That reminds me of an old dog that used to live in our neighborhood. Jasper was a sweet, old, blind fox terrier. And even though Hazel was pretty wild as a puppy, she would always stand still so Jasper could smell her. And Jasper would wag her tail. It was sweet. She was one of the few dogs that Hazel liked. Makes me teary eyed to think about it.

Whose idea was it to let dogs grow old so quickly? I would like a word.
Let's just say life at the Lair has been challenging.

Yuki has been outside most of today. He usually spends time outside but hasn't been doing so for the winter. It's very nice here today, warm and sunny. Yuki keeps looking for his friends...

Yuki just came back from his annual vet exam. He’s now 40 lbs. He was estimated to be 35 lbs when he was a puppy but how do they really know with mutts? He’s thiccc but I can still feel his ribs.
Maybe we’ll cut back on his meals…

Out for the early morning walk on the next street down the hill, a car came up to me that must have seen pretty regularly. The driver rolled down his window and asked me where my dogs were.
Sigh.

We arrived home to a very excited Maeve, excited as she gets these days. But as the synapses fired and she remembered us she became more happy asking us to pet her.
We noticed there was a build of poo on her butt, which is a common occurrence these days and something our house sitter wasn't quite skilled enough to deal with. He did try and clean her off, though.
The first thing the Queen thought to do was clean off the accumulation of muck. I was busy hauling in the bags while The Queen attended to Maeve. But I could hear Maeve vocalizing her displeasure at this new treatment. When I made my way to the front door, I could see piles of poop covered hair as well as.... the maggots. They were everywhere on her back side once you started removing the hair. There was also a giant swollen lump around her tail stub. Something was terribly wrong with the baby. She howled because she didn't want that area touched. I grabbed the scissors to remove hair. I found more maggots as well. From tiny numbs to inch long horrors. I think I finally cut them all off. I rinsed her back with more warm soapy water and freed her for the day.
First thing tomorrow, Maeve and I go to the vet to see what the problem is.
Not the best welcome home. So many maggots.

That’s gotta be the harshest homecoming ever.
Hope Maeve is ok.

We shall see. I'm heading to the vet this morning. Curious to see how the maggot breeding program went over night. I'm afraid they have burrowed into her skin and they maggots are causing the mass around her tail.

Supposedly maggots only eat dead tissue - they have been used for cleaning wounds - so maybe you're done with them. Fingers crossed.

Myiasis can occur in living flesh, usually open wounds, or skin soiled by urine or poop potatoes. It's super nasty. And it can occur in humans. There are a lot of truly disturbing wormy parasites that humans can have. I have a relatively strong stomach but wormy parasites push the edge of the envelope.
