The Olympics
#16
Watched the women's gymnastics team via peacock. It only showed the US v ROC showdown, and was all about Simone dropping out. I hate peacock coverage, even though Nastia is commenting.

So much debate about Simone. Stacy said she read that for Gen X, quitting is the new winning. wth? I don't know what to think about it all. One thing about gymno - the potential for a crippling mistake is so high.

The Twisties. Biles made the right call.
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

Simone is in a class of her own. I can’t question her choices when juxtaposed with her achievements.

That being said - congrats to Suni! She’s been solid throughout all of this and the all-arounds prove it. Glad to see some of the others emerge from Simone’s shadow.

Peacock promises so much, delivers so little.  My physical therapist was lamenting how you used to turn on the Olympics and just watch stuff unfold.  Now it's nickle-and-dimeville, padded with mansplaining and hyper-patriotism.

So hating on peacock but that what I’m watching because it’s free.

It’s weird to have the replays. Won’t be able to watch the women’s gymno all-around until tomorrow, and there’s no suspense because every platform I see spoils it. Still gonna watch tho.

Watched some highlights - rowing, swimming, windsurfing - women’s badminton final was cool.

Was watching shooting and archery before. Shooting isn’t visual - air rifles don’t give any kickso you can’t tell what’s going on behind the little dot they superimpose on the target. I liked that elder Korean archer - he was the epitome of cool.

I watched so much Olympics yesterday. Men's Beach Volleyball, Men's Indoor Volleyball. Women's Beach volleyball in the pouring rain. I caught some of the Women's Gymnastics but I knew the outcome which killed the suspense. I watched the canoe. I watched the opening heats of a bunch of track events. At about 4pm, I have 4 cable channels airing Olympics.

So, naturally, I went to NBCOlympics.com to watch the live Men's Epee Team. That was the worst streaming experience every. I was mirroring the broadcast from the phone to the TV. The feed crashed at the end of every round. I think it was just so I would refresh and get served another commercial. But the worst part was being ahead by 9 touches with two rounds to go and losing by eight touches. That hurt.

I'd also like to see some standings somewhere for the team events. Like where is the US standing in their pool for 7-on-7 Rugby? I can get their results. I just don't see where they are in relation to every other team. And that goes for pretty much all the team sports. I'd like to know if we have more than one women's Beach Volleyball team going into the Direct Eliminations. But I can't find them anywhere.

Yes, I'm a bit burnt out on the Olympics at this point. I think I'll spend the evening watching the new JCVD film. Or maybe women's team saber.

I have finally found the brackets for the team sports. They were hard to find but they are on NBCOlympics.com.

Lydia Jacoby losing her goggles as she dove into the pool on the first leg of the mixed medley relay was crushing. I felt very bad for her.

Lots of swimming and running heats and pole vault and team triathlon and women's soccer (Yay, PKs!) I need to watch something else. And volleyball and women's water polo.

It was also funny that they asked Ledecky, who is 24 and the most dominant swimmer at 800m, if she was going to retire. She laughed and said she was thinking at least two more games.

I have kicked my addiction for the moment after watching the final of the Women's Team Saber event between France and ROC. I will now keep the TV off until the live events start up again tonight.

I can do it. I think. Don't bet on it.

Looking forward to that tramp. Thanks for the tip.

Check out the NZ women’s rugby gold medal gala. Bad ass!

The only tramp available on peacock was the American who fell through.

Japan winning team epee was cool.

Peacock did solid coverage of women’s all-around gymno. They showed most of the contenders well, didn’t freak out about Simone except for the beginning (we think because we skipped it). Good commentary explaining finer points of each performance. Nearly 3 hours of coverage with no commercials and only a little filler during rotations. Hope there are more like that to come.
