The Last Captain
(09-14-2018, 08:31 AM)Greg Wrote: Happy Movie Release Day!

I promise not to spend all day staring at the Vimeo landing page to see if anybody has spent any money on the film. (So far $0 at 8:31)

Yay!  I'll share that on my personal social media.

Sigh. With thousands of impressions and hundreds of likes, The Last Captain generated two rentals over the weekend. One in Australia and one in Hungary.

I guess our estimation of the markets need for a film about dead Hungarian Saber fencer who died sixty years ago were over rated. This does not bode well for the film about the American Saber fencer who died twenty years ago. Even if it does have the Knicker Twins in it.

In my wildest estimation, I thought we would at least have double digit sales.

I'll be in bed.

I shared your link on my personal facebook page, but it only garnered 1 like.  That's low for my page.  I suspect it was facebook's typical tactic of squelching outside links so few actually saw it.  No one commented except for me so it wasn't bumped up.  I also added it to our ongoing forum thread - http://www.kungfumagazine.com/forum/show...st-Captain.

Thank you.

I'm taking a mental day to work on another surefire hit, the construction of the 6th Street Viaduct.

Thought for you - the title isn't overly indicative of the content.  It reminds me a bit of the PBD doc I worked on, Shaolin Ulysses, in that for the uninitiated, it means nothing.  The Last Captain makes me think of pirate movies or something.  In these twitterADHD daze, you gotta be loud and obvious with your titles to get eyeballs.  At least, that's how it sometimes goes with our online articles and such.

Which brings me to Stro.  Consider adding "An American Fencing Master" as a subtitle.  Just a thought.

Good news: Just shared it on my timeline.

Bad news: That's equivalent to a hermit whispering nothingness into his navel.

Intend to watch soon.  (Preoccupied with trying not to worry about a moving ordeal tomorrow -- cranefly on a forklift for a rush job.)

Concur with DM on the titles.

Thank you, CF. All DOOM have done their part.

I'm feeling less suicidal after a nice email from DM and I noticed that The Queen shared my link on FB with her FB friend Robert Redford.

Did scapino do anything? If not, can we blackball him again? I enjoy blackballing him.

I have sent Mulan to help.

Because there are Disney princesses in DM’s celebrity circle.  Cool

I bow before you knicker covered majesty.

There's probably a double entendre in there somewhere.

This may sound like a stupid question, but still, people who ask stupid questions should be valued for -- I don't know -- being lower on the totem pole?

Anyway, how does one actually watch The Last Captain?

Here is a trail of my travails.

The trailer mentioned that it is avaiable on Vimeo and Amazon Prime.  Good.  I'll go with Vimeo.  I do a search on "vimeo the last captain" and get two hits.  There's The Last Captain music album here: https://vimeo.com/217145984
and then your The Last Captain page.
Question: Might a conflict arise between you and the music person for having the same title?  I suspect it's safe, because your media is sufficiently different.  But not certain.

On your vimeo page, I see several excerpts, but I just want to watch the movie.

I decide to venture to imdb's entry on The Last Captain, and add it to my watchlist (after logging in), but don't see any link from imdb to actually watch it.

So I go back to The Last Captain vimeo page and try clicking on the Read More link, but get a page saying "This person hasn't updated their profile yet."
So back to the main The Last Captain vimeo page, where I click on various links, eventually trying the On Demand link at the bottom of the page.  But that takes me out of The Last Captain and tries to sell me other stuff.

I also triy the More button near the top, which gives a dropdown that includes On Demand, but that also takes me away from The Last Captain.

Only very belatedly do see a Watch button at the top, which, when I click it, gives a dropdown that includes yet another On Demand option, and when I click that one, at last there it is in all its glory, The Last Captain available for purchase for 48 hours.

Call me Ishmael or call me Luddite, or anything else you choose, but it seemed a bit concealed in its bloom.  Are there ways to cut to the chase on vimeo or imdb?

Still putting this off until I can recover on the weekend, only I'm helping with a warehouse move yet again this weekend.  Maybe I could load it up on my android and watch it while driving forklift.

The Amazon Prime Direct Video still hates me.

I’ve had some Certified Old People ask me if a physical DVD will be available. I have referred them to you, but they look bewildered when I mention “e-mail”.
In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.

At this point, there are no plans for a DVD. We've had about 5 requests to make one which means we wouldn't make back the money to produce them.

But as I have said, never say never.
