It was cloudy, but you could see it pretty well. Like a Caspar David Friedrich painting

2 is a happenstance , *3* is a gathering.

There’s such a range now. We’d share them across the office (G2, Patrick, Kevin, Jason & me), have tastings. It was a lot of fun and we were all sugared up for a few weeks.

Now it’s a seasonal thing for me, but not something I grew up with. My dad would occasionally get them, along with a ton of odd Chinese snacks, really odd come to think of it, but not mooncakes that often.

I got Tara into them and get her a tin every year. She’s born a rabbit and the art boxes are all bunnies & moons. Stacy made me hunt down a box without preservatives. That was a quest. Tara just texted that they are good (and the box was cool - art deco rabbits around the moon in pastels.)

G2 texted me moon festival greetings this morning. She was boarding a plane bound for a cruise in thr Greece isles.

This year I got Taiwanese pineapple mooncakes. With preservatives. Comes with a cadmium warning.

*Pineapple* moon cakes, you say? That might change my mind on moon cakes.

The extra cadmium means I could store electricity. I see nothing but Win here.

Don't forget about the lead in those moon cakes, as well.

Those pineapple cakes can be good, if they aren't too dry. I used to get good ones at the bakery in Vallco Village when I worked near there. I didn't know they were moon cakes. Unless maybe they weren't? They were rectangular, maybe 3 inches long or so. I think the label just said "pineapple" with a bunch of characters that I assumed said more.

They make mooncakes in all sorts of varieties now. I’m told the meat ones are good. This was a pineapple cake (which is a Taiwan thing like boba, not necessarily a moon cake unless made so). This was pretty much a typical pineapple cake but with a yolk that tasted like a hardboiled egg yolk. That didn’t quite work for me but it wasn’t bad.

Was that what that orange thing was in the middle. I thought it might be carrot, but didn't taste like a carrot.

Traditionally, a mooncake has some kind of yolk. Some offer double yolks. Twice as lucky. The yolk and the stamped dough top are the signatures of moon cakes. But there are so many variations now. There were several vegan ones & low sugar ones this year, but no gf yet.

I guess the ones I got were just pineapple cakes - no yolk.

Yeah, that’s more common. The pineapple moon cakes were a special twist for moon festival.

Hunter's Moon, baby. We should gather and watch it. Although, I'm not leaving the Lair for at least a week.

tg & DM gathered at a galaxy far far away. There was nachos & pretzels w/pub cheese (plus beer & blue milk).

Black skulls & banjos were exchanged.

NOT a euphemism. Come on. What would that even be a euphemism for?

The last 2024 supermoon is Thursday - the Hunter’s moon.

There's a dic doc production meeting tonight (premature e-beaver-ation) at Jakes at 6. I'm cool with you joining in if you're in 'toga, but you'd have to clear it with the dic doc dude because I'm just a lowly tech advisor.

It is also a meeting of the Mom Watchers Group of which you remain a member for life, having been there and done that...

Sounds good but I'm having some weird stomach trouble which leaves me queasy and unable to eat much, and easily out of breath, which makes me a bit tired. I guess I should post that in the appropriate thread. I'll get right on that.

You should have seen DM make the Rookie mistake of asking about my mother.

Hours later I concluded my first thought on the matter......

Bummed I forgot to show DM some very special pictures of paintings.
