Italian food
#1
OK, it is easy to find middlin-to-bad Italian food, but hard to find really good Italian food. The Grrl and I have been to this place a few times and it was always good. Fresh specials that change daily, someone in the kitchen who still cares about the food, slow but convivial "Euro" service.

I ate there yet again this past Saturday, with a couple of friends in tow. One who has been to Italy many times, one who is half Italian and can cook. First time for both. Verdict: As close to Italy as you can get, food-wise.

Anti-pasti: Baby Octopus in a surprisingly delicate tomato sauce over a mild cooked sauerkraut. Oysters and papaya cocktail. Capaccio.

Mains: Mushroom ravioli with a mushroom reduction and truffle-oil, seafood risooto, pasta con olio (al dente, natch).

Good house wines (I'm told) and the espresso was damn good, too.

Where?

Caffe Macaroni. Bad name, great food. North Beach, Frisco

In the Tudor Period, Fencing Masters were classified in the Vagrancy Laws along with Actors, Gypsys, Vagabonds, Sturdy Rogues, and the owners of performing bears.
