Today I looked up how much a "cattie" was.

1.1 pounds.

Now for everyone's fav D00M4M game where DM corrects Greg on his pithy assumptions. 

The catty is relative to country. In PRC, it's 1.1 lbs. In Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, Korea, it's 1.3 lbs. In Hong Kong and some of the other little dragons (not Taiwan), it's a little more. 

Now is where it gets tricky for you - what source are you referencing to get to this? Was that source from PRC or Taiwan...or elsewhere? 

The best metaphor for Chinese culture is a Chinese box. Open a box and find another box inside. If you don't find the next box, you aren't really researching it at any depth. Such is the nature of one of the oldest cultures in the world. Tread warily. Next thing you know, Simu Liu will be trending with more cultural appropriation accusations...
