Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983)
#1
This ep still feels like Lucas painted himself into a corner and desperately tried to resolve it all. Obviously he failed on that account. After that, the franchise is like 'but wait...there's more!'

Again, the CGI updates annoy me - they're mostly in Jabba's lair, and they are glaringly and superfluous grabs at humor.

How much time transpires between V and VI? Because Luke suddenly has serious Jedi confidence with his escape plan, not to mention the cool black Jedi outfit. It feels like he needed to train more.

Yoda's death is as conveniently timed as Shmi's and Galen's. I guess that's a Star Wars thing like getting your right hand lightsabered off. It bugs me that Yoda dies before just telling Luke about Leia. If he didn't repeat "Luke...Luke..." so much, he would've had enough breath to spit that factoid out.

The Luke/Leia kinship still bugs me. That felt like a last minute add, or a detail that wasn't fully thought out. Leia's story is the most messed up. Sure, she was an inspiring early example of female empowerment, but the fact that she remembers Padme makes no sense at all, and her story arc is just a jumble.

Still luv Admiral Ackbar yelling 'It's a trap!' He's not Captain Obvious. He's Admiral Apparent.

The galaxy celebrations at the death of the Emperor are annoying mostly because we hear Jar Jar shout 'we free!'

I was at odds with the CGI update swapping the prequel Anakin force ghost with the E VI unmasked Darth. Never liked the E VI unmasked Darth. Shoulda been Prowse - he got the most screwed by the franchise, far worse than Gina. But I get it now. The prequel Anakin works better because he was on the verge of Jedi knighthood, not Darth. It's like Kenobi says - that 'certain point of view'.
