The third track on Rush’s 1980 album Permanent Waves. Written by drummer Neil Peart, “Jacob’s Ladder” is a dramatization of a stormy day before the sun breaks through and shines its rays of light onto Earth, though it has been interpreted to be about many other things, some with religious or philosophical meanings.

The song is over 7 minutes long, yet contains very few lyrics, being mostly an instrumental all the way through.
