2 people hospitalized after crash involving suspected DUI driver in Santa Cruz

Police say Barry Belcher, 61, was driving under the influence of drugs when he lost consciousness and drove into the sidewalk of the Murray Street Bridge

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. —
A driver has been arrested on suspicion of DUI after crashing into someone Friday evening on the Murray Street Bridge in Santa Cruz, according to police.
Officials say Barry Belcher, 61, was driving under the influence of drugs when he lost consciousness, and his vehicle veered into the sidewalk of the bridge.
A woman was struck by the car, and a man ended up going over the bridge and into the water while attempting to avoid being hit, according to police. 
Officials say the man was rescued and taken to a trauma center, and the woman who was hit was taken to a hospital.
Belcher was arrested for felony driving under the influence and drug possession.
