It was like that somewhat for me. Steve kept her in her house for almost 10 years beyond when she first needed help. 10 good quality years. He oaid (and is still paying) a price for that mitzvah.
We knew that once she was no longer in her home, she would not last long. I think she made it 6 weeks once we put her in a home.
I did feel a weight lift when she passed, but mainly because she had been slipping away for years. I'm tearing up as I write this.
