Another library sale find. I'd heard praise for this author, and it was short, less than 100 pages. Binti, the titular heroine is a member of an African tribe with technical skills that seem to be sort of shamanic. She is accepted to a galactic university, but no one wants her to go, but of course she does anyway. And her ship is attacked by aliens. She learns to communicate with them, and is a go-between for them and the world of the university. Entertaining but perhaps a bit slight. (It is the first of a trilogy, so it could go deeper there.) It read well and I enjoyed the writing. I'd say read it if you want to get a feel for the author.
