I'm not sure what I'm supposed to comment on here. Yeah, they've been working on this for several years. They split the linac into three: first section got ripped out and replaced with cryomodules from Fermilab that initially sucked, so that set stuff back a bit. Then pandemic, but they managed to keep working on it. The second section is for accelerator experiments and the third runs the original LCLS, which needed an upgrade because there was only so much focusing that could be done to a beam generated by a 50-year-old linac. If you have specific questions, let me know. I don't report on that side anymore (I could bore you to tears about LSST) but I could probably find out.
