The Detroit Theater was ok. It was improperly lit and poorly filmed, but it lent some nice authenticity to the role. The Miami Crystal Room turned in a fine show, with all the seedy glitz we'd expect from Miami. The Chandler Pavillion was completely unrecognizable in the role, a testament to fine acting. Nice wainscotting there, and DM is always a sucker for nice wainscotting. The Apollo was surprisingly good. We'll expect more from it in the future. The Apollo is one to watch. Curtis Cadillac was mediocre and Rainbow Records just kept reminding me of the Rainbow records on El Camino Real - just couldn't suspend my disbelief long enough to make that work. American Bandstand seemed totally fake. Max Washington's Club could have been done by anyone. Again, the lighting and camera work severly detracted from proper showcasing of the set. Ceasar's was good - that always sets a high standard. On the whole, it was a bit longwinded. DM loves musicals, but all pales to Bollywood, especially a Broadway show attempting to make the big jump to the silver screen. The film would have been much better if the sets weren't blocked by Donkey, that American Idol chick and that Destiny's Child chick.
