I remember when we saw the Gyoto monks it created this sort of oscillating overtone that you don't really hear in the recordings. Of course the point of it is probably doing it, not listening to it. For listening pleasure though, Gregorian chant is the clear winner.
I imagine Tuvan throat singing is probably more effective in a small space like a yurt. A Tuvan appeared with the Kronos quartet on an album I've got, but I always skip that track.
